Sober Living America's mission is to connect people with the 12 step community and to lead them into a growing relationship with God. They are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization located in Atlanta, GA and Jacksonville, FL. The Atlanta campus is currently housing and rehabilitating nearly 100 men and women living in one community who "admitted they were powerless over their addictions and compulsive behaviors and that their lives had become unmanageable (Step 1 of 12)". Sober Living America has created a safe haven for those people that have nowhere else to go and no money or insurance to get the help they need. The recovery program has helped over 50,000 people since its inception in 1994 (previously named Peachford House).
Our small group from Buckhead Church consists of 11 men: Ash Pait, Clay Roberts, Donnie Robinson, Eric Penney, Jason Horell, Joe Ayers, Pat Ludeman, Phil Adra, Rick Venetico, Teddy Gillen and Todd Achilles. Through the course of our regular volunteer efforts we as a group were all touched by Sober Living. We discovered a need for help and felt that we could make a tangible difference in people's lives right here in Atlanta.
After spending time with the men and women of Sober Living while hosting a barbecue recently our small group saw firsthand the HUGE demand for transportation within the community. Without their own resources most residents are reliant on the limited capacity of existing vehicles owned by SLA. So many times willing residents are unfortunately left behind from church, meetings, work and other healthy activities while the organization exceeds its capacity of riders. During our time with the group we learned how many of these people were seeking to grow in their faith. We decided to invite them to church and filled our vehicles beyond capacity to bring as many as we could. It was this moment that our group instantly knew what we had to do. Something we take for granted like the ability to go to church on Sunday is a luxury these men and women do not have. After discussions with the leaders of the organization we concluded the best solution was to raise funds for a high capacity vehicle. A new, reliable vehicle will help the committed residents get to public transportation, church, interviews, AA/NA meetings and ultimately turn thier lives back in a positive direction. You can be a part of this tremendous transformation.
Through our network of connections we have identified a generous bus distributor who is willing to help us purchase a bus for pennies on the dollar that would be perfect to serve the community's needs.

Our small group's mission is "To grow in our faith and relationship with Jesus, together as brothers in Christ, through studying God's word, having courageous conversations, and keeping daily commitments. We strive to put our sinful nature behind us, allowing the Holy Spirit to renew our thoughts and attitudes so that we may speak the truth in love, lead more people to Christ, and humbly serve the community." This fundraiser matches up perfectly with our group's calling to serve our community.
