Munchie was seen at Southbay Animal Hospital today (5/19) They shot an X-ray and found on his right rear leg a: Distal Tibia Fracture Right Rear - complete- transverse –closed. In English, both bones are broke clean across and cannot be simply set in a cast. He requires surgery, which will put a small plate on the bones so they heal.
I discussed with the doctor what his/my options are. If he does not have the surgery the leg will heal in some fashion, certainly not correctly. I will be required to keep him in a small crate for 6 weeks to prevent him from attempting to walk on it. Once healed there is no guarantee what type of use he will have of this leg. He may have slight limp or extreme limpness with the inability to use it all which amputation will then become a viable option.
I was referred to Veterinary Surgical Specialist, out past Veterans Expressway. I was given a loose estimate thru my vet of $2200-$3000 over the phone. I chose not to drive out there and spend more money to get a paper estimate at this time. I have received several suggestions and have been making phone calls and will continue to do so. Once a final surgery center is chosen I will update, post the estimate and let everyone know.
The information is here about his injury along with the x-ray, I welcome any info if you would like to call your vet and get pricing for me. I am in Ruskin, south Hillsborough County so please take that into consideration.
Many folks have already suggested payments to a vet ect. I will say Murphy’s Law as proved itself to many times over in the last months. Payments are NOT an option for me. No one knows my personal financial situation better than myself so please respect that and understand I do everything I can for these babies and this is just not an option for me. So we (Munchie & I) are In it to Win it!! It’s all or nothing here.
Please share and help in any way you can. I personally have 642 friends on Facebook. If each person could donate $4.68 this surgery would be a guarantee. If your friends shared and so on and we could 1500 people to donate $2, Munchie will have his leg fixed.
We both thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any help you can give!!!
