The Story

***GOAL REACHED ~ Thank you SO MUCH for all of your support.***

Dear Supporters and Animal Lovers,

MUFFIN survived the surgery and the microchip is out!  We are so relieved!  It will be a little while before we know how much mobility he will have, but the neurosugeon is optimistic!!!!!  Thank you all for your support of this little wee boy.

WE HAVE REACHED OUR GOAL
!!!!!  We have left the fund raiser open, since once it is closed, we will be unable to update all of Muffin's friends. NO NEED TO DONATE MORE!   We are overwhelmed by your generosity.   Because of you, Muffin will get the finest care with the best surgical team. Please keep Muffin in your thoughts and prayers that he survives the surgery, and lives a long, healthy kitty life.  THANK YOU from the bottom of every rescuer's heart.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MUFFIN is only about 5-6 weeks old and weighed only 1.1 when Loran went to rescue him last Thursday, October 16, 2014 From Downey She went to building 7 to have MUFFIN's microchip placed as required.  She then went back to wait for another cat that was being spayed.  She was there about an hour or less & during that time she noticed MUFFIN became lethargic and his head was, "dangling".  She thought it was odd since it happened right after the placement of the microchip, so she took him back to be seen by Dr. Jones.  Dr. Jones told her she thought the microchip was okay.  MUFFIN was given NutriCal and fluids.  Loran left & took him immediately to her who vet recommended if he still not seem right in the morning to bring him back and be seen by a neurologist.  MUFFIN was unable to move -- He was Paralyzed!!!!!
The paralysis continued through the night along with incontinence of bowel and bladder.  Loran took him back the next morning to be seen by a neurologist.
X-Rays were taken---MUFFIN HAD BEEN PARALYZED BECAUSE THE VET TECH PLACED THE MICROCHIP INTO HIS SPINAL CORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The vet has asked that donations NOT go to them directly as they dont want to have to track them so anyone able to donate, please send to 9livesrescuecenter@gmail.com. Donations are TAX DEDUCTIBLE and any amount helps!!! Please send for family or friends and indicate its for MUFFIN.
Good morning.
We have posted a couple new photos of sweet Muffin from this morning before he was taken in for surgery prep.  Muffin is in good spirits and full of spunk.  His combo test came back negative.  More updates to come in a bit.  All of your love and support is sincerely appreciated.  Faith is a wondrous gift.
HI EVERYONE-WE ARE NO LONGER IN NEED OF DONATIONS FOR LITTLE MUFFIN. THANK YOU ALL FOR CARING AND DONATING.
WHAT WE DO NEED ARE YOUR PRAYERS. PRAYERS THAT MUFFIN SURVIVES-PARALYZED STILL OR NOT, WE NEED PRAYERS THAT SURGERY IS DONE AND MUFFIN MAKES IT THROUGH.
THANK YOU!
Dear Muffin Supporters,
Loran was interviewed today, and will be on the Los Angeles ABC-7 news TONIGHT, 10/26, at 11PM.  We are so grateful for everyone's support.  In addition to helping little Muffin, we are encouraged that all this attention is spreading the message that our Los Angeles shelters need reform.  The DACC (Dept. of Animal Care and Control) needs to change the way they do business.  They can't have something like this happen, and not take responsibility for it. It has to start at the top with a change in attitude and practices.
Many thanks to everyone.  We are overjoyed that Muffin will get the care he needs.  Say a prayer for him, that he tolerates the surgery on Tuesday, and comes out whole.
Muffin and his rescuer, Loran, were on the CBS and KCAL (Los Angeles) news last night, 10/25.  Loren did a wonderful job explaining what happened and why the surgery is necessary and what the risks are.  The outpouring of support and generousity from the viewers has been heartwarming.  We are most grateful.  You can go to losangeles.local.com, and enter "kitten paralyzed" in the search - it's not letting me link it here.
We are increasing our goal.  The original goal was a very conservative one, as it doesn't even cover the cost of the surgery, and recovery care could run much higher.  We thank everyone from the bottom our hearts for opening your hearts and wallets to help this baby.  The comments have touched us deeply.
