The Story

Stephen and his family found out of his diagnosis with smoldering myeloma (pre-stage bone marrow cancer) just three weeks after Stephen was married.  He went to his primary doctor when persisting pains in his chest concerned his wife.  Blood tests led to a bone marrow biopsy which led to Stephen's diagnosis.
His hematologist suggested they be aggresive to treat what they found since myeloma is not only rare and dangerous but also even more rare in someone Stephen's age.
The conventional treatment success rates that he and his wife found were not acceptable to them, nor did it seem safe; as the doctors suggested it could interefere with Stephen and Sara's hopes to have a family.
The couple has found a world-renowned doctor with outstanding success rates and a safe treatment for Stephen.  The doctor has his own practice in Manhattan and the couple will be traveling at the end of May to visit with him and his team to begin Stephen's treatment.

Fundraiser Updates

To all of our supporters,

A quick update for you all. Stephen has left Dr. Issac's practice and has found a local functional medicine doctor that heals cancer under the radar as she corrects the microbiome and replenishes the body with certain vitamins and minerals it is depleted of, allowing all the processes in the body to function properly again.
Finding Dr. DeMarta is a true blessing.  Having a doctor here at home that Stephen sees on a weekly basis for nutritional IV therapy has been fantastic as she is also a great emotional support and excellent nutritional guide.
Steph achieved much success while with Dr. Gonzalez, his cancer marker had dropped more than half when we lost Dr. Nick.  The only unfortunate part of becoming a new patient with Dr. DeMarta, was the initial fees that we had to go through again. And again, since this is not the "standard of care" (chemotherapy, radiation, bone marrow transplant, or surgery) the care is not covered by insurance.  A SAFE and EFFECTIVE treatment is NOT covered by insurance because it works and Stephen will not be a slave to the medical industry his whole life.
We are pushing one last time for one more round of raising funds.  Stephen is on a six month case management program with Dr. DeMarta, which is $6500, he sees her for IV therapy weekly which is roughly $400 each week, plus the cost of a few essential vitamins that Stephen takes on a daily basis. Any little bit will help the family.  We ask that you tell a friend about Stephen's strength and courage as he stands up to the medical industry by choosing to think for himself and take his power back as he knows he is the only one who has the power to heal himself, with the help of a functional medicine doctor that can guide him professionally and assist in replenishing the body with vitamins and minerals at high doses for optimal body function.
Thank you all for your continued support on this healing journey.  The tragic loss of the beloved Dr. Nick was very upsetting but we have felt his guidance from above, we will continue to treasure and apply what Dr. Nick taught us.

With love and gratitude,
Sara & Stephen Hawrylciw

Hello everyone!

I aplogozie for not posting updates more frequently that I feel you all deserve. A lot has shook our world since my last entry and I was a bit distracted. Stephen's primary doctor that was leading him in his cancer treatment was found dead in his home on July 21, 2015. Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez was in excellent health before his passing, so his death was very unexpected and is due to causes that are still unknown. Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez had grown to be a hero in our household. Whenever Stef would not feel well or had a question, Dr. Nick was just a phone call away; everyday he stayed after office hours to return patient's phone calls. He was not only a Doctor, he was a friend to all.
The passing of the doctor that Stef relied so heavily on was frightening for him at first. The man with all the answers was gone. But as that was said, I had to step back and realize, that he is not gone. He will forever live in our hearts. Dr. Nick continually educated the masses on how to detox and heal through nutrition. Dr. Nick lives forever through his work and through his patients, family, and friends.
It is our turn now to carry the healing torch in our own hands. It was really has always been our turn, but sometimes it takes finalities on Earth to make us realize what we have to do to heal completely. The power to heal is in all of us, it is our body's innate ability to heal. Mainstream media would like to portray an image of an evil cancer being incurable; but that is not true. It is far from true. People heal from cancer everyday. People heal from a lot of "incurable" diseases everyday. It is up to us to choose which story we will believe; the story that cancer is a finality, or the story that cancer is a gift and has the ability to open doors to true health and healing. Just like everything else in life, it is how we perceive it that will make it true.
Despite Dr. Nick's passing, Stephen is still a patient at his office with his partner in practice for 30 years, Dr. Linda Isaacs.  We have no doubt that Stef is still in the best of hands.
He will soon be sending in hair and blood samples for his 15 month progress report. We have learned stress is a large factor in the results of these tests and I continue to pray that Stef finds peace within himself, forever, so these tests can't even shake him as he expressed they make him a bit nervous.
A big thank you to everyone who has continued to support me and Stef through this character building time in our life. We love you all so much and know that without all of you, this would not be possible. Please continue to share this fundraiser, as Stephen continues with Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez's protocol of enzymes, supplements, diet, and detox. His next visit to Manhattan will be the first week of December for his 18 month progress report.

Love and Light,
Sara H

Our recent trip to Atlanta was a success; Dr. Sweat was very pleased with Stef's results.  While we were away, we got to celebrate our 6 month wedding anniversary in the beauitful Georgia fall air and hiked to the top of Stone Mountain.
Stef's next visit with our doctor in Manhattan will be December 5th for his 6 month progress report; I have no doubt that his cancer markers will continue to drop!
How far we have come in only 4 months is incredible and these results from the best doctors in the country would not be possible without all of you!  When my sister first suggested I begin fundraising I had no expectations, but the love and support that we have recieved has blown me away.
I was recently able to enter the offline donations that we have recieved to add to the total of our online goal; we are now at $11,273!
Please continue to share our fundraiser, our fight is not over yet; it will be open for 37 more days :)
