The first time we laid eyes on Jude, in May 2013, we knew he was our son. We ran across his picture on a website that was meant for special needs cases. We immediately contacted the agency and inquired about the possibility of adopting him. While speaking to the agency case worker, we asked the question, what is his special need? They asked us, what are you talking about, as they were not aware that they had posted to a site designated for special needs children and that he was a healthy 3 month old baby boy. We were filled with joy knowing the fact that he was healthy, even though we were willing to adopt a special needs child. There began the journey of bringing home Jude.
A few months after getting into the adoption process with Jude, we learned that the country had suspended the issuance of exit permits due to a couple of isolated cases of adoptive parents neglecting their DRC adopted children. This was heart breaking for so many families as there were adoptive parents in the DRC that were there to bring their children home but had to return home empty handed. Our contacts over there have had limited access to Judes orphange for getting updates, taking pictures and aquiring paperwork for progressing his case. Just recently we have learned that Jude contracted Malaria. We were asked to provide funds so that he could be taken to the hospital where he was given a blood transfusion and cared for. A couple weeks later we were told that he was very weak and needed to be taken to a specialist, but they again needed funds to do so. The specialist found that Jude had a parasite called Ascaris worms, which can have fatal results, especially over there. We were again contacted about providing recurring funds because Jude is now on a special diet which is aimed at giving him energy so he doesn't fall behind developmentally. We were just told that emergency funds are necessary as Jude's special diet food has been depleted and he has no more food.
We are doing the best we can to provide for Jude's needs, but are struggling to keep up. We had some funds raised for his adoption but were presented with an out of the blue, God given, adoption opportunity and brought home our beautiful baby boy Abel, which depleted those funds.
This fund is being set up for two purposes. The most immediate purpose being to provide for Jude's healthcare so that he can once again be healthy. Then the other purpose being to bring him home once the suspension on exit permits is lifted. We hate asking people for money with a passion, but we also love my children and will do anything to fight for them, their health and their safety no matter where they are in the world.
We believe that we were personally called to adopt. You may not be called to the same thing but we know that we are all called to help the orphan just as Jesus promised he would not leave us as orphans in John 14:18. If you can't give, we completely understand. Just continue to pray for our son. Pray that he gets healthy and and PRAY HIM HOME!!!
