Joey is an 8 pound fawn Italian Greyhound who came to Italian Greyhound Rescue Florida from a bad situation. We don't know much about his story except he ended up with an unscrupulous dog flipper at one point and two broken legs that were given minimal care. So minimal that the radius is fused to the ulna in his left leg. He was malnourished and neglected. After only a few days in rescue with his loving foster mom in Pensecola, he had a freak accident and rebroke his right leg. People from across the country and the state of Florida heard Joey's story and came together to arrange a 9+ hour transport from Pensecola to Tampa Bay so he could be tended to by the specialists at Blue Pearl and our Rescue Veterinarian Dr. Riley at All Creatures in Lutz. We were fearful he may loose the leg but luckily it was saved due to the care he received. Weighing in at only 6lbs at the time of surgery, it was a success and his leg was saved. Joey was fostered for three weeks by Dr. Riley in her home and is now still fostered in Tampa Bay while he recovers. While we were given considerable discounts for his complex surgery and other medical needs, the bills are approaching $2,500 for this little guy. If we don't raise the funds to pay back the Italian Greyhound Rescue Foundation, a 501c3, the Foundation won't be able to keep up the pace of providing the best care and chance at a forever home for our fosters. We pride ourselves in the state of Florida on always doing the best we can for our furkids in Rescue. Please help us continue to do what we do best, save the Iggies!
