Baby Henry was born Tuesday February 3rd, 2015 at 24 weeks and 1 day gestation weighing in at 1 pound 6 oz – a big surprise to his mom and dad – Sarah and Scott. He is doing very well considering how early he decided to arrive but he has a long road ahead. He will spend a considerable amount of time in the NICU at St. Lukes hospital in Cedar Rapids. His parents are anxious for the day when they can finally take him home!
When we first heard that Henry had arrived, we were thrilled that Scott and Sarah had become parents, but also knew that it was way too early for Scott to be sending out the “he’s here” text message. Our thoughts immediately went to “What can we do for them, how do we help?” We felt helpless as their friends in this situation and wanted nothing more than to support them. I am sure that many other people feel the same way. This fundraiser is how we all can help.
Most parents plan on taking leave with the birth of a child; to care for their precious newborn, to recover from childbirth, and to adjust to life at home with the new addition to the family. When a baby comes so early, the planned leave time gets spent in the NICU. Scott has already used up his vacation time and Sarah is considering going back to work soon so she has vacation left for when Henry comes home. Andrew and I have created this fundraiser to help lessen the financial worries they have, so they can focus on Henry. The money raised will be used for Henry’s medical expenses and for personal expenses. Scott and Sarah should be at the hospital as much as they want to/need to be – because that is what they all need now more than anything – to be together as a family. Please help support them and donate – together we can make a big difference in the life of a very special little guy J
