On Saturday, May 11th, Elliott was admitted into the hospital with flu like symptoms and soon after suffered cardiac arrest. After four hours of CPR, the doctors were able to get Elliott onto an ECMO machine, dialysis machine and a ventilator. It was determined that Elliott had contracted influenza which attacked her heart. She was diagnosed with Myocarditis. For eight weeks, Elliott remained in the PICU, and many of those weeks were spent in critical condition. Recently, she had a tracheotomy placed and has been slowly weening off her sedation medications. After many difficult days and nights in the PICU, Elliott moved to the Rehab Floor at the hospital where she will remain until she is strong enough to go home.
Many family, friends and strangers have been following Elliott's journey on Facebook and have been asking the question, "How can we help?". The greatest gift you can give the Muhs family at this time is a donation in honor of Elliott. Because of her lengthy stay in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, as well as her long road to recovery in the Rehabilitation Unit, the medical bills that they are faced with are astronomical and continuing to rise. By making a donation to Elliott, you will be helping to ease the burden of medical expenses that have overwhelmed this family. Let's come together as a community to show our love and support for this incredible four year old, Little Miss Elliott Muhs!
