The Story

Zach was in an auto accident on the morning of September 4, 2013. He was on his way to school, crossed an intersection and was struck by oncoming traffic. He was airlifted from the scene of the accident. He sustained a head laceration and traumatic brain injury. We spent six days at University Medical Center before being transferred to rehab at Trustpoint Hospital. He undergoes three hours of therapy a day which include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy. He progresses daily and has made great strides. We see more and more of our Zachary each day. Of course, he wants to go home, as do we! The next step is getting him moved to a brain specialized rehab, thankfully here in town. That will accelerate his progress and transition him back to school. Zach is a junior at Roosevelt High School and lives in Ransom Canyon, Texas.  He is a lively, ambitious, and busy 16 year old. We anxiously await his return home and look forward to seeing him walk back into school and back to his life. We are surrounded by a great support network that have loved and encouraged us as well as been a great help to us through this season of his life.  We are forever grateful!

It's been a while!  I have uploaded a few more photos.  Birthday, First Weekend home with the family, Homecoming, and Zumba for Zach in Dallas!

We are about to start our final week of in patient rehab at TLC.  His schoolwork shows up today so he can start catching up.  He is anxious to get back to Roosevelt! He is doing really well!  We appreciate the prayer and support!  It's working!  He celebrated his 17th birthday on Tuesday, the 22nd, and dinner and ice cream cake will be on the menu this weekend when he comes home.  Last weekend, he attended his high school homecoming with friends and had a great time even though they froze to death!  While he was here doing that, I was in Dallas attending a fundraiser organized by my sister, Zumba for Zach.  They raised $1016!  We are overwhelmed by the generosity of people that don't even know us and forever greatful!.  It was great fun!  If you are in the Lubbock Area, we have one schedule here for November 10th.  We would love to see you.  Zach will share a few minutes and dance the first dance to kick it off!

We have moved from Trustpoint Hospital to Transitional Learning Center...Finally!  It was a long fight with insurance, be have approval.  We have a discharge date of November 1.  Beginning, this Friday, October 11, we can take Zachary home on weekends.  I have posted a few pictures here of Trustpoint, his new room at TLC and some of his favorite vistitors...brothers.  Sy, our five year old planned a pumpkin party so there is a picture of that.  His brothers visitied him on Friday evening for a fun time with their favorites, LEGOS! He was with us all day Sunday for church, lunch and football games for his brothers.   Zach attended TTU Volleyball games over the weekend as well.  He is progressing well.  Keep those prayers coming.  We appreciate all of the support.  His motto....work hard, go home!
