Linda Shaver-Gleason was diagnosed with Stage IV Breast Cancer in March, 2015 at the age of thirty-one. She had noticed a lump months ago while breastfeeding, but was told it was just a plugged milk duct and sent home. When she returned to the hospital with unbearable back pain, doctors discovered it was breast cancer that had spread to her spine.
Linda is the mother to a beautiful toddler named Linus, the wife to her loving husband Chris, and a wonderful friend to everyone in her life. She is determined to fight hard and outlive her five-year prognosis.
Linda has spent the past decade pursuing advanced degrees in viola performance and musicology at the University of California, Santa Barbara and has established herself as an accomplished Mendelssohn scholar and public musicologist. She's inspired everyone here in the music department with her hard work, brilliance, and uncommon ability to balance new motherhood with dissertation research and conference presentations!
So many of Linda's friends and family members from all over the world have been sending love and prayers since hearing about the diagnosis. She, Chris, and Linus are so grateful for your heartfelt concern and support.
We know that in addition to the physical and emotional strain of chemotherapy and other treatment, the Shaver-Gleason family faces mounting hospital bills. While Linda focuses on getting well, we all have the power to help her by contributing whatever we can afford to lighten the financial burden.
No donation is too small.
