The Story

Amanda Henson is a wife and mother of two, and she was just diagnosed with stage 2b breast cancer.

Amanda was recently diagnosed and is working with an oncology team and surgeon to find the best treatment options.  She will undergo 4 bi-weekly AC treatments, followed by 12 weekly Taxol treatments and 5 years of Tamoxifen.

All funds raised are going directly to Amanda (YouCaring has no fees) to pay for her medical bills and cover any lost income.

Any support you can offer is greatly appreciated as we join Amanda to help her fight breast cancer.

You can also join Amanda's Army on Facebook to get updates and information about ways to support Amanda and her family through her treatment.

Amanda is posting updates to her blog, It's Me, Amanda.

Hello again everyone!  I have just finished my 4 bi-weekly A/C treatments and am beginning my 12 weekly Taxol treatments on October 10.  So far I've lost pretty much all my hair, but have stayed pretty healthy and positive throughout the process.

Recently, I wrote about some of the lessons I've learned through losing my hair on my blog (http://itsmeamanda.com/2014/09/18/7-truths-ive-learned-from-losing-my-hair-to-cancer/) and was invited (and attended) to read a post at Type-A Parent's "We Still Blog" Awards. I hope to sail through these last treatments and am finished by New Years.

What your donations are doing
Until June 1st, I was not covered by any health insurance and as such, we are responsible for all of the accrued bills until that point.  Your donations have helped pay these bills - because of your generosity, our family has not gone into extensive debt.

From this point forward, your donations will help us pay our deductibles, for our perscriptions, and help offset the incidental costs accrued through treatment.

Thank you all for the continued support you've shown me and my family through the past few months.  I'll never be able to tell you thank you enough or show my appreciation sufficiently.

Hey y'all! Amanda here!  I just wanted to thank everyone for the support you've shown me over the last month and a half!  You all never cease to amaze me!  I also wanted to provide you with an update on how I'm doing, where we stand with treatment plans, and what, exactly, your donations are going for.

First of all, let me just say again how amazed and moved I am by all of the love this amazing community has shown me.  I am staying positive and upbeat about the entire process, if just a little impatient to get things started, and a lot of that is due to the messages of support I receive from my friends, family, and complete strangers.  While I'm extra tired, I am staying busy and staying focused on beating this head on!

Treatment plan update
As of now, we are awaiting news on when my surgery will be and exactly how extensive.  I should have news on that in the next 24 hours and believe me, I'm ready!

After surgery, and barring the need for radiation, I will begin an extensive course of "dense" dose chemo bi-weekly for 8 weeks and then will switch to another "dense" dose chemo weekly for 12 weeks.
