***SEE THE VIDEO IF YOU WANT THE LONG VERSION******
In February-March 2013 my friends helped me raise the funds to get a PTSD service dog. I suffer from PTSD due to extended childhood trauma. That dog turned out to be SDiT Phoenix who I picked up from 1 Boy 4 Change in May 2013.
Since then we have been training hard, learning tasks, and practicing our public access. She has been doing wonderfully and is already competent in some of the tasks I need:
- Alerts to panic attacks/ increasing anxiety levels
- Performs DPT during a panic attack
- Finds certain key items that I lose due to memory issues
- "Six' watches my back in public
We are working on perfecting those tasks as well as learning a few new ones:
- Blocking on different sides of my body
- Medication reminder
There are a number of other tasks that I would like Phoenix to learn that are currently beyond my skill level. We also need to do some intensive work on our public access and just in general make this girl of mine bombproof! To do that we need to head down to FL for an extended stay with our trainer ( not exactly sure how long yet, but at least a few weeks).
To get there I need your help one more time!! We live in the upper midwest so a trip to FL is going to take a lot of gas money! Then we need funds for food and outings while we are in Florida. Currently my PTSD has me disabled to the point where I can't work. I am in 23 hours of intensive therapy a week. Finishing Phoenix is part of the plan to get me back on my feet. I want nothing more than to work again and get back out into the world!
Help Phoenix and I hit the finish line. It's FLORIDA OR BUST!!!
