Today, I have some important news to share. We have entered into an agreement to be acquired by GoFundMe. It became clear to both us and them over the last few months that we can have a much bigger impact on the world by uniting as a single crowdfunding solution for people in need. Transitioning our experience into theirs, and providing campaign organizers with access to their 50M+ donors, will better serve our users over time.
Running YouCaring has been the highlight of my career. I joined in 2014 as one of just three people, and we have grown it to 50 strong. Along the way, we have been able to raise over $1 billion from over 10M donors for people facing hardship — to cover medical expenses, volunteer projects, adoption fees and more. We are home to the largest crowdfunding campaign in history, JJ Watt’s “Houston Flood Relief Fund,” which raised over $37M from over 200,000 people around the world. And we’ve been able to grow by relying exclusively on voluntary contributions from our donors.
I have had the privilege of working with our incredible team these past few years, who come from a vast array of backgrounds, skills, and interests. And we have gotten to work with incredible partners along the way.
Our purpose at YouCaring has been: “To empower the world to face hardship through courage, community, and compassion.” And I know that will live on through GoFundMe from here.
Our top priority is making this transition as smooth and seamless as possible for all of you. We are working closely with GoFundMe to ensure the best for everyone involved. We will be reaching out to our community with more details as we move through the transition.
I thank everyone who made YouCaring what it is, and I’m confident that our users will be in good hands with our friends at GoFundMe from here.
