We are a family of four who loves one another dearly and knows what need is. So many children are in need of a family. Just the basic need of love, stability, family. I am a special ed teacher and an adoptive mom. Olivia, Braeden and Liam (currently 12, 9, and 7) were each adopted through foster care. They understand adoption and are deeply pained to know there are so many others who don't have a family.
For a long time our family thought of adopting another child. This time we decided to adopt abroad and felt God calling us to that path. We began in the program for Hong Kong. After a year and a half of working hard toward that goal, Hong Kong no longer became a viable option for a single mom with three children. After much prayer and decision making, we transferred what we could to the adoption program in Haiti, using the same agency. Looking back on some personal struggles during this time, it's easy for us to see now that this was God's plan for us all along. And how amazing that the very week we were deciding to start this journey of adoption, a little girl was born. A little girl who would eventually need a forever family. Our Macy.
Haiti is a beautiful country. However, Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, with 80% of the population living under the poverty line and 54% in abject poverty. Most live on less than $2 per day. Approximately 7.5% of children born will not live past the age of five. There are approximately 10,000 Haitians per one doctor: in the US the ration is 350:1. Currently Haiti has an estimated 750,000 orphans.
We are through the US side of the process and are currently in the court system in Haiti. Our dossier (paperwork) will go through many steps and stages as the adoption moves forward before we can bring Macy home. Soon we will be traveling for two weeks on a mandated trip to meet her for the first time. Most likely myself and one of the kids will travel with the other two staying home with friends. After that trip we will return and wait while the adoption paperwork goes through more red tape and cautious checking before the adoption is complete. At that time another of the kids and I will travel back for one week to bring her HOME.
Everything until this point has been covered. I am also living with no debt with the exception of our home. I have been VERY careful with our money. I am looking for help financially to raise money for both trips.
