Waffle's Sponsored Borlee Hunt

This fundraiser is closed. Thank you for your support!

Little Waffle, the Lakeland Terrier, is famous for her talent at finding and rescuing an amazing amount of lost and lonely 'borlees' (balls) that seem to roll her way.

So a few weeks ago, I offered to donate £1 to Terrier SOS for every borlee Waffle found for one week. Well what started as a little bit of fun between friends, has now grown, with so many people jumping onboard the borlee-finding bandwagon, that we've now created an entire page so all your very generous donations can be collected together under one roof. This way we can keep track of exactly how much money we raise in order to help the little terriers who are not as fortunate as our own beloved pets.

So starting TODAY (Saturday June 28th 2014) Waffle has begun her mission to track down as many lost borlees as she can, while out on her daily walkies. We will post updates on daily ball counts as we go through the week.

Every penny you raise will go directly to Terrier SOS, who rely entirely on the generosity of donations in order to continue rescuing and rehoming many abandoned little dogs, throughout both Europe and the UK.

So on behalf of Waffle, Waffle's mum Sarah, and my dog Barley (who is donating pennies from her Gravybone funds), I would like to thank you all for your very generous support. However large or small, every penny helps. All that remains is to wish Waffle the very best of luck on her mission and to say HAPPY HUNTING WAFFLE!!!!

Love from Sally (and Barley), and Waffle (and mum Sarah) xxx

Waffle has gone international and been featured in the USA's Huffington Post! Well done Waffle, this is a BRILLIANT article that prints all the important bits about Terrier SOS, how you can donate, and even mentions the fact that her worldwide Facebook community has made our fundraising such a success!

PAWESOME job Waffle and Sarah, well done! xxx

PS. We've have asked them to change Waffle back into a girl!

Wafflemania continues!!!

Well our fundraiser has been quietly ticking away, and we're now all the way up to a MASSIVE £3477 raised for Terrier SOS!!! Thank you to everyone who has sent donations in, we are all so grateful for you generosity!

Waffle has been very busy organising MORE public apprearances, (yes, the excitement isn't over yet!!!) so watch this space for updates on those, and fingers and pawsies crossed that these might just enable us to reach that HUGE 4K milestone! Well done Waffle and Sarah!!!

by Sally Grist

Well what a Waffle-filled week we've had! Well done Sarah and Waffle, you were BRILLIANT and you did us all proud!

Waffle's appearance across a multitude of national papers, plus her TV debut on the BBC, has resulted in our fundraiser continuing to GROW. We have already extended the deadline for donations by one week, and the total raised so far is a GYNORMICOUS £3335!

We've received donations from as far afield as New Zealand, the Blue Ridge Mountains, and even had contributions from our dearly departed at The Rainbow Bridge! Our thanks and hearts go out to all owners who have been moved to donate on behalf of their doggies, (not to mention, the doggiess who have donated of their own accord - well you know terriers!)

We would also like to extend our gratitude to the army of protesters who have rallied round the One Show Facebook page. I believe the One Show is currently being inundated by a barrage of opinions regarding Waffle's lack of opportunity to explain the REAL story of the Sponsored Borlee Hunt! Keep the posts going folks, maybe they'll have Waffle back next week to broadcast the facts this time! https://www.facebook.com/bbctheoneshow?fref=ts

Remember - The Power of the Paw..... let's be as tenacious as terriers about all of this, and hang on until we eventually get our way! BOL!

We had planned to do our grand prize draw this weekend where all our sponsors will have the chance of winning a prize donated from Wet Nosed Friends by Sally Grist Artwork. But with all the excitement of the week, we are having to postpone it until next weekend instead. We hope you will forgive us, but all this publicity came out of the blue and muddled our schedules somewhat!

Well what a WHIRLWIND of media excitement we have witnessed this passed two days, and it's still going on! Waffle has achieved some well-deserved fame in both radio and online news, and we're losing track of how many people have picked up the story! And we're still getting phonecalls now... at this rate Waffle's going to have to get herself an agent! *muses whether Simon Cowell is available for the task...*

Sarah has done an excellent job in the interviews, she's managed to plug both Terrier SOS and our YouCaring page (and even the NTC at one point!) Of course we have been subjected to varying degrees of cutting and editing, but for the most part, all coverages have included links to the important bits!

Typcially, the Mail Online couldn't even get her gender right, but don't get me started on what I think of British tabloid press, or I'll be on my soap box all day!

Most importantly though, all this media attention is bringing in extra donations, and even though they're trickling in fairly slowly now, the fact is - we have now passed the £2500 mark!!! Woop Wooop!!!! And on top of that, it's raising a lot of awareness for Terrier SOS, so it's a win-win all round!

Many thanks to Ros Chimes and her contacts at the BBC, without her pinging off a few emails, none of this would have happened. Thank you Ros! xxx

Here are the stories that have been published so far, we will add more as and when they come to light :

Don't know which is better.... the fact that we've now raised a MAHOOSIVE £2610 for Terrier SOS, or that Waffle has made it to Page 3 of the Daily Mirror!!!

Go Waffle!!! Expecting a call from Simon Cowell any moment...

by Sally Grist
Well we've only gone and passed the £2000 mark!! Wow, what can we say?! What a STAGGERING result from an idea that started out so minor!

This message has been sent from Terrier SOS, in appreciation of the amazing amount of money we've all helped to raise so far:

"You are all amazing and we are blown away by Waffle's borlee hunting skills, Sally and Barleys computer and journalism skills but most importantly you the supporters generosity and kindness! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. This money will be used to reserve, rescue, rehabilitate and rehome terriers in need. Every penny is used to help the dogs under the wing of Terrier SOS and without you, the supporters, these dogs would not have a future and go on to have long and happy lives. We run entirely on donations and by volunteers who give up their time gladly but without the funds available to support these dogs Terrier SOS could not continue to help them. Every penny counts and this fundraiser has been an amazing and unexpected success. Without Waffles keen nose and Sallys amazing idea this week could not have achieved all it has so far and its not over yet! So once again we thank you all for your support as always for our terriers in need. Thank you."

Isn't that nice to hear? Makes it all worthwhile :)

And our intrepid borlee hunter has gone and done it AGAIN!!! Another  FOUR borlees found today, just where are they all coming from???

Cumulative Borlee Total is now 19, so WELL DONE WAFFLE!

Two more days to go until mission complete (yes it is two more days, I accidentally put that this morning too, I obviously forgot how to count in my excitement)

by Sally Grist

Cumulative Borlee Count now stands at a MASSIVE 15 borlees found so far this week!

Well done Waffle, you're an absolute superstar, no one in the world can find borlees like you do!

With only two more borlee hunts to go, let's keep up the support and remember the little terriers who we are doing this for. Your donations can help give an abandoned dog the chance of a life as wonderful as our own beloved pets have. So KEEP GIVING and THANK YOU!!!

Sally (Barley sends a noselick) xxx

Re-posted from Connie Lakeland Terrier, the perfect synopsis of our little event:

There followed a long period of painstaking research during which WAFFLE visited all the major centres of BORLIE loss throughout the galaxy and eventually came up with a quaint little theory which caught the public imagination at the time. Somewhere in the cosmos, WAFFLE said, along with all the planets inhabited by humanoids, reptiloids, fishoids, walking treeoids and superintelligent shades of the colour blue, there was also a planet entirely given over to BORLIE life forms. And it was to this planet that unattended BORLIES would make thier way, slipping away quietly through wormholes in space to a world where they knew they could enjoy a uniquely BORLOID lifestyle, responding to highly BORLIE-orientated stimuli, and generally leading the BORLIE equivalent of the good life. - (with apologies to Douglas Adams)

Thank you Connie for that creative insight, it made me laugh out loud!

by Sally Grist
Well we're only at the start of day 2 and we've already gone way past the £200 mark! Four borlees found on the first day, and what a response! Thank you everyone for all your donations so far, let's hope Waffle has another successful mission today! Xxx
