Dayana Garcia, a 12 year old McHenry girl whose life was lost in a tragic fire that destroyed her family's home.
In the early hours of Friday March 8th, the Garcia family of the 4500 block of Parkway Avenue awoke to their home almost completely ablaze. In a frantic rush for safety, Dayana's mother, father, and brothers managed to escape via the home's second story windows. Thinking the entire family had evacuated together, the Garcia family was horror stricken when they realized their beloved Dayana was still inside the home. It only took moments for the home to become fully engulfed in flames, to the point where it was deemed "too dangerous" for even our very own firefighters.
It took several hours for emergency crews to finally extinguish the flames and confirm the tragic passing of the sweet, young girl as they retrieved her body from the home.
Faced with this unspeakable tragedy, the family of Dayana has been assisted by the American Red Cross and are residing in temporary housing for a few days till money is raised to help them out.
