Fundraiser Details

Dear Friends of Weathervane and Codey Montecalvo,

One of our young actors at Weathervane, Cody Montecalvo, was diagnosed with cancer in September.  Codey is 12 years old and has been a part of our Weathervane family for years.  He has taken classes and volunteered for many productions including Seussical the Musical, Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, ANNIE, HONK! and, of course, Joesph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.  Weathervane has been the fortunate recipient of Codey's wit, charm and talent both on and off the stage.

Codey started chemotherapy on September 17th.  He will remain in Children's Hospital until September 20th or 21st.  Codey's treatment plan includes chemotherapy every two weeks, with Codey hospitalized during the week he is having chemo and then home during the weeks he is not.  During his week at home he will go outpatient into Children's twice a week to get bloodwork done.  This will continue for approximately 11 weeks.  At that time it is hopeful that the tumor will have shrunk enough to be surgically removed and they will possibly give Codey radiation at that time.  Following surgery Codey will have another 22 weeks of chemotherapy to ensure that the cancer is not hiding anywhere.  This timeline is the perfect scenario but could change at any minute depending on how Codey's body is tolerating the chemotherapy.  Codey's parents, Judy and Steve will alternate days so that one of them is always with Codey and one can go to work.

If you can help us support Codey and his family through this difficult time, please make a donation to this site.  Thank you for your support!

PLEASE NOTE: This site does not charge a mandatory fee for fundraising, you can opt out.  We also have a donor willing to cover the PayPal translation fees.  100% of your donation will go to the Montecalvo family!

Friends,

We sure hope everyone is enjoying the spring time weather!

We had a week of trips back and forth to the clinic - lots of low blood counts that led to several blood transfusions. However, Codey was okay with this because it meant no admit to the hospital for his next chemo treatment, which means HOME for Easter! So the new plan is admitted on Monday for his next five day round. His doctor promises (as much as she can!) that he will be out Friday by early afternoon so we can drive to Columbus for the State Destination Imagination Tournament! As Codey put it...."Its a win/win Mom! I get to be home for Easter and get to be with my team at States!"

I have attached a flier for the next Team Codey Fundraiser! (Posted in the gallery) This time it is sponsored by Codey's Boy Scout Troop 155! A chili cook off on Saturday May 10th at the Brandywine Bar in Peninsula! Please see the flier for details and a huge thank you to Troop 155!

On behalf of my whole family - our gratitude to everyone's acts of kindness and hope! We wish you a beautiful Easter weekend!

Love,
The Montecalvo Family

An update from the Montecalvo Family:

Friends, What an incredible event Codey had the privilege to attend Friday evening - A Prom toRemember!! A Prom to Remember is a very special night for teens ages 12 - 19 who are currently battling cancer or are cancer survivors! These kids are treated, at absolutely no cost to them whatsoever, to a truly special prom night - complete with dresses, tuxes, flowers, limos, dinner, and dancing at the Ritz Carlton in Cleveland! Just wait until you see the pictures - one look at Codey's smile will tell you how excited he and his friend Reyna were! There is also a great picture of Codey and Reyna in front of the selfie cam on the Akron Children's Hospital Facebook page and lots of pictures of the event on the A Prom to Remember Ohio Facebook page as well. We also want to send a huge shout out to ETC Heid School of Musical Arts! We attended their Spring Gala Sunday afternoon and were treating to an exceptional and moving performance! As a member of the Main Street Singers, Codey has had to miss the entire season due to his treatments. However, a beautiful and heartfelt tribute to Codey was presented as the Main Street Singers performed the song Spark, by Ed Sheeran (one of Codey's favorite artists!) in his honor! Thank you ETC for all of your support and look for them as a leading force in Codey's Relay for Life Team! Hopefully a quiet week this week and then the plan is back into the hospital next Wednesday for a five day treatment - looks like we may be hunting for Easter eggs in the hospital room! Enjoy the warmer weather and have a great week! We continue to appreciate all of your kind gestures and prayers! Love, The Montecalvos

An update from the Montecalvo family:

Good morning,

Hope all of you who were on Spring Break this last week had a wonderful break! Ours was pretty uneventful (yeah!) although I am sure that Codey would tell you that last Friday was one of the best days ever! The morning started with Codey and I going to Miller South to see the school's production of Les Miserables! This was the first time Codey had been back to his school since he got sick and you would have thought he was a celebrity! The warm and loving welcome he received was just amazing - if I only had a dollar for every time I heard "Codey!". And a huge shout out to Wendy Duke and the drama students of Miller South - the play was absolutely astounding! What talent and passion these middle school students possess! And to be in an auditorium full of the rest of the students from the school (4th through 8th grade) who were sitting on the edge of their seats the entire time was unbelievable! Their appreciation of their classmates performance was amazing! What a truly special place Miller South is!

I am not really sure how Codey made it through the rest of his day....from Miller South he then went on to play Lasar Tag with his Woodridge friends and then later that night met up again with some Miller South friends to celebrate his friend Sarah's birthday! I don't think the smile left his face the entire day! (picture in the gallery)

This week Codey is scheduled to go in Wednesday and Thursday for his fifth chemo round. We are crossing our fingers that he will be feeling good by Friday to attend "A Prom to Remember" - a prom at the Ritz Carlton in Cleveland for all cancer patients ages 13 - 18 who have or are currently battling cancer. Those will be some fun pictures to share of Codey and his friend Reyna dressed to the nines for this big night out!

We are all so grateful for the opportunities that have been given to Codey and the love and support we feel everyday! I would like to ask for prayers for one of Codey's buddies from the 5th floor at Children's Hospital. Please pray for eight year old Wilson Patterson who is fighting for his life against leukemia. My family has been blessed to be the recipient of your prayers and I know the Patterson family could use them now as well.

Have a great week - I think spring is finally here!

Love,
The Montecalvos

An update, with a photo (in the gallery) from the Montecalvo family:

I just had to share this.... As many of you know, one of Codey's favorite acting roles has been in Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat. Well....Jayna Treen, music teacher at Woodridge Intermediate School, took it upon herself to make Codey his own handmade Technicolor Dreamcoat!! The coat was made from material donated by the staff and students of Woodridge Intermediate who continue to pray for Codey daily! What an incredibly heartfelt and meaningful gift! I cannot begin to tell you how touched Codey is by this gift - and as you can see by the attached pictures - he wears his coat of many colors very well! A huge thank you to Jayna Treen and all who contributed! Codey tried three times last week to go in for his next chemo round but was sent home each time because of low blood counts. We will try again tomorrow! Enjoy your day, The Montecalvos

An update from the Montecalvo Family:

Friends,

What a week!  The week started with Codey going in for routine blood counts check last Wednesday and ending up in ICU because of low blood pressure and a fever.  We had no idea how he was going to be able to get better in time for the doctors to release him to go to his DI tournament on Saturday.  Just proof again that prayers do work!  Codey was discharged around 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning and by 10:30 a.m. he was able to join his team at Hiram College for what proved to be an amazingly successful and rewarding day!  Codey's team, The Crop Dusters, placed 1st in their division and will be moving on to the state competition in April!  More importantly, was the awarding of a very special award, The Spirit of DI, awarded to a team who has shown incredible spirit!  Codey's teammates have embraced Codey - always making him feel a part of the team even when he wasn't able to be there!  A huge shout out to Codey's incredible teammates and friends - Kyle Grebb, Alex Imobersteg, Spencer Buzzelli, Reese Riffey, Ryan Miller, and Cooper Takacs.  We are so grateful to these boys and their families for giving Codey the opportunity to stay involved and just feel like a kid again!  Please see the attached picture of the winning team!

A possible two day admission this week for Codey if his counts are high enough. Hopefully we will all get a chance to get out and enjoy some of the sunshine this week!

Love,
The Montecalvos

An update from the Montecalvo Family:

Just a quick update, including an exciting event coming up next week!

First off I just want to let everyone know that Codey has done very well post surgery!  He handled his first round of chemo well and just today is starting to complain a little about mouth and throat pain.  Just in time for us to go back into the hospital tomorrow for round two which will last five days.  We are very hopeful that Codey will get out of the hospital Friday evening - just in time we hope to head to the airport to greet his grandparents from New York City!!  We are so thrilled to have Grandma Carol and Grandpa Robert spend the weekend with us!!

We would like to invite EVERYONE to a Team CodEy fundraiser at Marcelitas Restaurant in Hudson on Thursday, February 13th from 4:00 - 7:00.  There will be raffle baskets, a 50/50 drawing, and a very generous 10% of all food sales going towards Team CodEy and the American Cancer Society! (Thank you Beth and Kevin Killeen!)
God willing, Codey WILL be there to greet all of his supporters!!  Thank you to my sister Robbie, my niece Lindsey, and many friends for putting this event together!  Hudson staff - look for more details in your school email this week!

My eyes have certainly been opened to the depths that cancer strikes...in just the past two weeks I have learned of two co-workers who are battling cancer.  Please keep them in your prayers as well and continue to support the American Cancer Society so that someday there will be a cure.

Love,
The Montecalvo Family

Fantastic news from Codey's Family!

Friends,

Dr. Patton came in today and gave us the best news ever!  They got the final test results back from the lab and all of the margins of the tumor they removed are cancer free!  Which means Codey will NOT have to do radiation!  So as soon as Codey remains fever free for a day or two we will start the consolidation stage of chemotherapy - could be as early as this week and no later than Monday.  Not sure if we will get a chance to go home before that or not.

Codey is slowly improving everyday - baby steps have never held so much meaning!  Yesterday he ate for the first time and today he walked to the end of the hall and back!

Codey says he is up for visitors as long as they know he won't be able to do much and that he might fall asleep during their visit!  So visitors are certainly welcome and would help break the monotony of some very long days.  One can only watch so much Law and Order! (I didn't realize that it is on all day long!)  Not a very uplifting choice....but at least Modern Family is on tonight!

So much appreciation for all that everyone is doing - meals, getting Angela where she needs to be, letting the dogs out, house cleaning, visits, phone calls and texts, and most of all your prayers and emotional support!

Love,
The Montecalvos

an update from Codey's Family:

Dear Friends,

Hope you are all staying warm and all of my teacher friends are enjoying the bonus two day extension of break!  I know I am!

Just a quick email to ask for prayers for Codey tomorrow morning during his surgery to remove his tumor.  Codey has had a great three weeks - he has felt great, eating like the Codey of old, getting stronger, and is very upbeat about his upcoming surgery!  So are we!

I would also like to share a couple of HUGE thank yous to the following -

1) SGS TOOL - where Steve works.  Tom Haag, the owner of SGS, bought every single employee (over 200) a TEAM CODEY shirt and they all wore them to work last week!  Can you even imagine Steve's face when he saw this?!!!  Please enjoy the attached photo! (In the gallery)

2) Weathervane Theater and especially Sarah Bailey, Melanie Pepe and Lisa Mansfield, who organized and chaperoned an all night TEAM CODEY lock -in for Codey and over 40 of his very dear friends!  I am positive that this was the highlight of Codey's holidays.  I don't think he has stopped smiling since!  After four months of hospitals and chemotherapy, the timing could not have been better!  He will always have great memories of that night!  Codey did update his  Caring Bridge site and there is a great picture of him and some of his friends!  Be sure to click on photos to see all of the photos he has uploaded!

I will try to send out another email tomorrow afternoon once Codey is in his room.

We are so appreciative of everyone's support and prayers - thank you for keeping the prayers coming!

Love,
The Montecalvos

An update from Codey's Family:

Happy New Year my friends!  Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and we are wishing all of you a Happy New Year!

Codey has had a great week - he is past the chemo effects and his job right now is to get stronger before surgery which is tentatively set for January 8th.  All of his scans came out very positive - the tumor has significantly shrunk and there are no signs of cancer anywhere else in his body!  We are so thrilled at this news!

Codey would like to pass along a special event to all of his friends age 12 - 16!  Weathervane Theater is hosting a "lock in" in Codey's honor Friday, January 3rd!  Please see the attached flyer if interested.  Codey definitely feels well enough right now to attend and is so excited to be able to hang out with his friends! (well, as long as we get the doctor's approval, which we think we will!!!)  Codey is also open to visits from his friends during this week - just give me a call or email me to make sure we will be home!  And lastly, Codey updated his caringbridge site (www.caringbridge.org/visit/codeyscancerstory - not much but he did add a picture!

As 2013 ends and we reflect on all of the blessings in our lives, we think of each and every one of you!

Love,

An Update from Codey's Family:

Good morning,

It is so good to be home!  Codey fared this last week of chemo pretty well and is so happy to be home for Christmas!  He will have a couple of scans this week including a full body bone scan and chest x ray so the doctors can take a look at his tumor to see how much it has shrunk and to prepare for surgery.  We do not have a date yet for surgery but we do know that it will be sometime after Christmas.

A huge, heartfelt shout out to Steve's brother Rick and friends for organizing an awesome Corn Hole Tournament this past Saturday!  Despite the weather, the turnout was incredible and the generosity of so many even more incredible! (over $2000 raised in one day!)
Please take a look at the attached picture of Team Codey from Steve's side of the family!  We love you guys and are so very grateful!

We continue to appreciate all of your prayers - we truly feel like we are moving forward!  Phase one of the chemo is completed and now we move into phase two and three - surgery and post surgery chemo.  Healthy visitors are always welcome and many of you can attest to how the visits truly lift Codey's spirits!
We sincerely wish each one of you a wonderful holiday season full of love and peace.

With love,
The Montecalvo Family

An update from Codey's Family:

Friends,

Quick update for anyone who wanted to visit!  Codey has finally been admitted for his last round of chemo before surgery.  It was supposed to be yesterday but they sent us home because his blood counts were still too low.  They are still low today but the doctors decided they were going for it!  So we will be in room 5623 through at least Saturday.  His scans are scheduled for December 16th but they may need to reschedule those because of the delay in completing this last chemo round.  And then from there his surgery will be scheduled.  We are not sure yet if it will be before or after Christmas.

I also wanted to share a beautiful article that was in the Akron Beacon Journal yesterday for all of you who may not have seen it!  Jewell Cardwell is one of my favorite columnists and she wrote an extremely heartwarming and compassionate article about Codey's journey.  We truly want all of you to read it because the main objective of the article was to publicly express our gratitude for everything each one of you have done for our family.  We are so grateful!

Codey also updated his caring bridge site last week....  www.caringbridge.org/visit/codeyscancerstory

An update from Codey's Family:

Friends,

Could be a blessing in disguise....  Codey will get to be home all weekend as his platelets count still isn't high enough to start chemo today.  Looks like we just might be able to get some Christmas decorations up after all!  And Codey was so bummed to not get to see Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat at Weathervane last Friday for the opening night so hopefully we will be able to go this weekend!  He feels great so if any of his friends would like to come visit just let us know!  Codey will be admitted on Monday for his five days of chemo and then home to recover and await surgery.  Date yet to be determined!

Have a wonderful weekend and stay warm!

Love,
The Montecalvos

An update from Codey's Family:

Codey's numbers are still not high enough for chemo.  We are going home today and will come back into the clinic tomorrow morning.  If his numbers are high enough tomorrow they will admit him immediately and start chemo.  If not, he will be admitted Monday for his five days of chemo.

Have a great rest of the week!

An update from Codey's Family:

From room 5639...  Codey has made a lot of progress over the last week and is feeling much better!  His mouth and throat pain is pretty much gone and his blood count numbers are continuing to rise!  He actually is off of all IV fluids and pain medication which is wonderful!  They are going to look at his blood count numbers tomorrow morning to see if they can start his 5 day chemo round that was supposed to have started a few days ago on Monday.  We are hopeful that they will since we are already here!

Codey feels really good today so if any friends would like to visit this would be a great day to do it! (as long as you are healthy of course!)

Enjoy the beautiful spring like weather today!

Love from,
The Montecalvos

P.S. wanted to share the great picture of my two bald headed guys! see the attachment!

An update from Codey's Family:

We hope this finds all of you enjoying the long weekend after what we hope was a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Our plans for a fun, relaxing weekend came to a halt today as Codey was admitted into the hospital with a fever. We had a feeling this was a possibility yesterday as Codey's mouth sores and throat became very painful.  He was able to enjoy some Thanksgiving food - especially the nice soft mashed potatoes and gravy!  But this morning he woke up not being able to swallow anything.  We had an appointment scheduled to get his blood counts anyway, so we headed in with a suspicion that we might have to end up staying. We are just happy that we avoided another trip to ICU this time.

We are pretty sure that they will just keep Codey all weekend since we are scheduled to come in Monday to start his next round of chemo.  Looks like Christmas decorating will have to wait til next weekend.

If you get a chance, take a look at yesterday's Akron Beacon Journal, the front page of the community page.  There is a wonderful article about some of the teachers at Woodridge Intermediate School cutting their hair to donate for wigs for cancer patients.  Very moving for our family, as they held the school wide assembly in Codey's honor!  We thank you!

We also received a great picture today from New York City!  Codey's birth mother, grandparents, and aunt and uncle all participated in a Thanksgiving Day race wearing their Team Codey shirts!

And for all of you cat lovers - our new kitty, Oliver, has adjusted to our busy house of 6 people, 2 dogs, and now 2 cats without a hitch!  He and Oreo snuggle up right next to each other on one of Codey's furry blankets all day long.  He is a sweet little kitty!

Please know that on Thanksgiving we all gave thanks for each one of you.

With love,
The Montecalvos

Hope the early morning message made you smile.  :)

An update from Codey's Family:

Good morning,

A little bonus - Codey was able to come home last night after his 9:00 p.m. chemo treatment!  He may need the extra night at home to recover from what was the most wonderful weekend and birthday celebration on Monday!  Codey had an absolutely perfect weekend - spending it with his birth family from New York City!  Baby Otto is surely one of the cutest babies you will ever meet!  Look for pictures on Codey's caring bridge later this week! I took one at the airport when Codey and Otto met each other for the first time.  Baby Otto is reaching out to Codey with the biggest smile on his little face!  Let alone the even bigger smile on Codey's face!

Codey's 13th birthday on Monday was also a fabulous day!  He was surprised by a decorated hospital room and a visit from some friends who brought a big box full of 319 birthday cards (yes, we had to count them!) from the students at Miller South!!  What fun we had looking at every single one of them!  The entire day was spent visiting with family and friends - I do not think there was a time that there wasn't a crowd of people celebrating Codey's birthday until visiting hours were over at 9:00!  Thank you to everyone who helped make Codey's 13th birthday one he will always remember!  Enjoy the attached picture of our new teenager! (and yes, for those of you who know our neighbor, the cake is a Donna Rastok creation!)

NOTE:  THE ATTACHED PICTURE IS ALSO IN THE GALLERY http://www.youcaring.com/medical-fundraiser/codey-is-one-of-our-own-/88929

After talking with the doctors, our tentative game plan looks like this.....Codey should be home for the next week and a half going back into the hospital the Monday after Thanksgiving for his last 5 day chemo round before surgery.  Surgery will likely occur the week before Christmas giving us the week of Christmas to recover before the second phase of chemo and possibly radiation starts again.

As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, we truly would like to express to each and every one of you how thankful we are that you are in our lives.  We are thankful for our family, our friends, our schools, our community, our doctors and nurses....there are no words to express the magnitude of gratitude our family feels for all the support, prayers and love.  We are truly blessed.

With love,
The Montecalvo Family

An update from Codey's family:

Good morning,

Thought I would send a quick update before what will be a wonderful weekend!  We are so excited to have Codey's birth mother, her husband, and 7 month old baby coming to stay with us this weekend from New York City!  They arrive today and will be here until Sunday afternoon!  Codey is so thrilled to meet his baby brother for the first time!  I am sure there will be some great pictures to share!

Codey''s latest passion is cooking and he is now looking into the idea of selling his signature sandwiches out of a food truck!  Beware, however, if he invites you to try one....it appears that chemotherapy also changes one's taste buds so Codey loves to add a lot of spice to his sandwiches!  Just ask his Aunt Robbie who was one of his special guests the other night!

Codey will be readmitted to the hospital for two days on Monday, which is his 13th birthday.  We are going to surprise him by decorating his hospital room with balloons and signs before he gets in there Monday morning.  So if any of your children want to make a Happy Birthday sign for Codey that would be awesome!  I will just need them dropped off (secretly, of course!) to my house sometime Sunday evening.

If Codey's schedule stays on track, he will have one more 5 day round of chemo the Monday after Thanksgiving to complete this first phase.  I am anticipating that his scans and initial surgery will take place sometime in December.  As always, your support and prayers are carrying us through each day and we cannot thank you enough!
Be sure to check out Codey's caringbridge - he updated his journal this week!  There is a great picture of him opening up his gift from the Woodridge Primary, Intermediate, and Middle School Staffs.  The picture is a bit dark but the smile on his face says it all!

With our love,
The Montecalvo Family

An update from Codey' family yesterday:

Good evening,

If all goes well this evening, Codey should be released from the hospital tomorrow morning!  He is definitely ready to go home and we are all ready to have him at home!  He actually made it through the chemo fairly well - got sick a bit the past few days so he has decided that he is not eating until he gets home!  Then we are going to spend the next week trying to fatten him up before he is readmitted next Wednesday for a two day stay.

We have been blessed this week with so much generosity - a wonderful gift from Woodridge Intermediate School and Woodridge Primary School (Codey is sending your thank you personally complete with a picture!), friends and family willing to sit with Codey while Steve and I were at work, and  many visits from friends and family. Thank you to all of you who have embraced Angela, Courtney, and Brandon and given them some special attention.  Codey has received cards from his preschool teachers who fondly remember him as the sweet and smiling boy that he still is today!  We have had friends rake leaves at our house and have heard that Boy Scout Troop 155 is planning on coming over Sunday to finish up the job!  There was even two Miller South friends who came to visit and gave Codey a check for$153 that they collected for him during Trick or Treat!  There are yellow Team Codey wristbands out there as well as new purple Team Codey wristbands - compliments of our sisters.  And there are also really awesome Team Codey t-shirts out there that can be bought with all proceeds going towards the Team Codey Relay for Life team.  Look for an email on how to get one if you'd like!

I could go on and on....each one of you have touched our hearts in so many ways and we are so grateful. Your constant presence and kind words and hugs and prayers continue to give our family strength.

With love,

With love,
The Montecalvo Family

The deadline for meeting our fundraising goal is fast approaching!  Thank you to everyone who has contributed to Codey and his family.  I am honored to be a part of such a generous and supportive community.

Which brings us to...  The final dramatic push to reach our goal.  Here it is!  IF we can meet our 5K goal for Codey by November 15th... MELANIE PEPE, LISA MANSFIELD & SARAH BAILEY will go rogue and put a purple streak in their hair!  JASEN SMITH has promised to dye ALL of his hair (such as it is) purple!

Wouldn't that be a sight to see?  If you have been meaning to donate, now is the time.  If you have already donated but still want to see this craziness become a reality, then remember, small donations add up!  :)

An update from Codey's Family:

Friends,

Greetings from the hospital room where FINALLY I can say that Codey is resting comfortably....

The last few days have been awful for Codey as his mouth hurt so bad that he could not eat, drink, or even talk!  And those of you who know Codey understand how difficult that must have been for him!

Despite numerous mouth washes and sprays, his mouth sores got so bad that yesterday they decided to admit him a day early so they could get him on an IV for fluids and stronger pain medication.  Thank goodness for morphine - it has worked wonders!

Despite all of this, the plan is that they will still start his next round of chemo some time today. If all goes as planned we will probably be here until Monday.  Healthy visitors are still welcome and a nice break during long hospital days!  (not only for Codey but for mom and dad too!)

Team Codey wrist bands have arrived and can be found in the Hudson High School office, from Bronwyn Craven, or from Leah Norris at Woodridge High School.  All proceeds from the wristbands will go to the Team CodEy Relay for Life Team.  And my daughter, Angela, tells me that wristbands are also coming to Woodridge Intermediate School as well!

My entire family would like to continue offering our gratitude to everyone for all of your prayers.  We all gain strength from all of you.  I hope you all know how meaningful your cards, visits, treats, errand running, meals, hugs, and prayers are.  We truly are blessed to have all of you in our life and rallying behind Codey!  Oh and by the way, he has updated his Caring Bridge!   www.caringbridge.org/visit/Codeyscancerstory

An update from Codey's Family:

Codey is at home after a quick two day chemo round this week!  He must be feeling pretty good since he and Angela and 11 of their friends spent three hours running around at Heritage Farms in Peninsula yesterday!  We are fortunate as Codey will be home for almost two weeks before going back into the hospital for a five day chemo round startingOctober 30th!  Codey and our family have been blessed with so much support and attention!  We have adults coming over and tutoring him on their speciality areas like Math, Science, Language Arts and History and that is in addition to his home instruction tutor!  Codey also wants to learn Spanish and any other world language and also piano and guitar so I am in the process of working on that!  You have to love a kid who LOVES to learn!  We have also been blessed with friends and family bringing us meals, surprising us with goodies, taking care of our lawn and leaves, taking care of Angela and helping us get her to where she needs to be, and offering to hang out with Codey when we cannot!  Codey always looks forward to the visits from his friends!  The other day he told me he couldn't believe he was saying this but he really MISSED going to school!  Of course, a lot of that is because he misses his friends!  So anybody healthy is always welcome to come visit!

Most of all we are so blessed because of ALL of your thoughts and prayers!  A day doesn't go by that someone tells us that Codey is in their daily prayers.  We know your prayers are working so thank you, thank you, thank you!

Love,
The Montecalvo Family

An update from Codey's family:

Friends,

Just a quick update from the hospital room!  Codey is now on his second round of chemo at the hospital after being admitted yesterday.  He is faring pretty well with only a little bit of nausea this morning.  The days are long but he is trying to fill them with writing, drawing, playing the ukelele (thank you Sarah Bailey!) and watching Bones on Netflix (thank you Hudson High School World Language and English departments!)  Visitors are certainly welcome as long as you are healthy and don't mind if you arrive and you find a sleepy Codey!

Codey has updated his Caring Bridge so take a peek when you get a chance!  Complete with a few new pictures!

We are daily amazed at the thoughtfulness, love, and support that we are surrounded with constantly!

Love to all,

The Montecalvo Family

A message from Codey's Family:

Friends,

Codey has had a great week since coming home from the hospital.  He felt well enough to go to the play, Xanadu, at Weathervane Playhouse Saturday night and was treated to a night he will always remember!  He has had lots of visits from friends and family and has enjoyed every minute of it!  Even yesterday afternoon, after going into the clinic earlier that morning for a chemo round, he was running around our yard with about ten friends enjoying the beautiful fall day!  One would never know that this is a boy who has five inch tumor inside of him!  Your prayers are working!

Tonight the Woodridge High School Volleyball team is honoring Codey with a Competing for Codey volleyball match!  We are so grateful and humbled by their efforts.  It is sure to be another night he will always remember!  If you are free this evening and love to watch volleyball (especially a constantly improving and exciting WHS Varsity volleyball team) come on over to Woodridge High School around 6:15 or so.  Codey's hope is to donate all money raised to the Team Codey Relay for Life team that will participate in June in Cuyahoga Falls.

Codey had blood work done yesterday at the clinic and as we expected his white blood cell count has dropped dramatically.  So again please just be cautious in making sure you are healthy if you come to visit him.  He will be readmitted into Children's Hospital next Wednesday for his second round of chemo.  We expect him to be in the hospital for 5 - 6 days.

You are all amazing - my entire family is so grateful.

Love,
The Montecalvos
