If you've made it to this site you know Chelsia has been diagnosed with a rare form of bladder cancer (stage T2 or T3 squamous cell carcinoma). Receiving the best possible care in an expedited fashion is the paramount goal. Current appeals for insurance coverage are being denied and while finances should fall very low on the priority list, you can imagine that treatment, travel, time off work, follow-up exams in Minnesota, etc. aren't very cheap.

We can help.

This site should provide an easy platform to help offset the financial burden Chelsia and Sharla are inevitably going to experience. Contribute as much as you can, as often as you can. Also- check the "Updates" tab frequently, we'll do our best to keep it current.

We're off to Mayo and surgery will be May 1st. Please keep us in your meditations and prayers.

And to find out progress updates, visit

Sharla will be updating you while I am down and out.

We'll keep this page up only until we return from Mayo. Your gifts have helped us tremendously. Thank you so much for all you have done.

Chemo has finally concluded and I'm trying to get my body in shape for surgery May 1st. Over one hurdle and onto the next. In the mean time, I feel really good physically and emotionally I'm finding myself a lot less depressed and a lot more balanced and optimistic. It's a difficult emotional ride for sure, but it's not one that can be avoided.
Make sure to keep up with Sharla's updates on our Caring Bridge site: Sharla is much more timely with her posts and updates. I'm actually pretty terrible at updating this site. Or, follow me on Facebook at

It's been a while since I've updated this page, but the fundraiser is back on line and rollin'.

Surgery for my new bladder is May first, May Day, and we're planning our trip back to Minnesota as we speak. We've received our first round of appeals denial letter and we'll be planning our second appeal while I am on the mend from chemo which, by the way, ends next week. In the month of April I'll be doing some spring growth myself. Vitamins, lots of them, body work, and exercise. I need to be in better shape so that I don't have too much difficulty recovering post-op.

I have to say, I'm scared as hell about surgery, but I'm doing my best to breathe through it and come to terms with it as a life-saving measure. It's hard to imagine the whole ordeal and what my body will be like afterward, but it's something I'll have to come to understand soon.

Thank you for all your support and help throughout this process. We most certainly appreciate it.

We've learned, as of Friday, that we are being denied insurance coverage, which makes this fundraiser even more important than it was before. Instead of just recovering salary, we're looking at hundreds-of-thousands of dollars of debt for treatment. That is, if we cannot fight with appeals and letters and an attorney.
This is such a difficult part of this journey. Instead of just focusing on healing, now we have to somehow fold in a fight for protections. As if fighting for recognition of our relationship wasn't enough.

We are trying to manage the anxiety of all of this, but it's difficult. Thank you to all of you who have donated, have left encouraging messages and are helping us along in all the ways that you. Angels, every last one of you.
