Friends-

First, let us take this opportunity to thank you all for the tremendous support you’ve shown us over the past week. We are moved beyond words by the love, gifts and kind words that have flooded into our fundraiser, inbox and home.

<img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/bNNxQsR5liepAw1ayqzlQLFTiLGhLXW6gBSmYDLQXTNMt-NcGQPkJoS-Bf4PO0P6xxXBY2Z8Sfam1_PQtZJ0mXMty2MgifxAspd9NsUPQ6ygcoNluPu4tPj9aA" alt="" width="233px;" height="233px;">

Over the week, Dave has undergone blood tests and biopsies to narrow down the possible causes for his low blood levels and subsequent illness. There have been several doctors on the case, and they now agree that Dave has a form of leukemia.

Brown Bird will be on hiatus while Dave undergoes chemotherapy treatment. We are staying positive and know that Dave is strong and will make it through this. Please keep us in your thoughts. We will also be keeping the fundraiser open until June 16th. Your generosity has not only helped us pay the immediate medical bills we were faced with, but also allowed us to set up medical insurance, which should start on June 1st. However, because we don’t know how long Dave’s treatments will take, it’s impossible to know how long we won’t be able to work; your donations now also go towards keeping us afloat while we have virtually no income.

Which brings us back to thanking you all, once again, for the support you’ve already given us. This will be (and already has been) a long, scary journey, but with your help, we’ll come out of it stronger than ever, and rearing to play.

We love you

-Dave and MorganEve

Original message:

Dear Friends, Family and Fans- We need your help.

On Friday night, May 10th, Dave was admitted to a hospital in Houston, TX with complaints of fatigue and shortness of breath. After an initial blood test, we were told he was severely anemic, with dangerously low red blood cell levels. Dave had been fighting and been treated for flu-like symptoms for the past six weeks, but until now we were unaware of the seriousness of his condition. Since admittance into the hospital, he has had several blood transfusions, which he is responding to well, and has undergone several tests to determine what is causing his illness. As of yet we still do not have a diagnosis, but are maintaining optimism.

We will be able to fly home on Saturday to pursue treatment in RI, and will be canceling a large percentage of shows until Dave is well enough to get back on the road. For us, canceling shows means not only disappointing our fans and missing out on what we enjoy most, but also going without income. Since the 10th we’ve already accrued over $29,000 in medical expenses and losses, and will be faced with ongoing expenses once we’re home. We love being full-time musicians, but it can be a financially challenging lifestyle, and without health insurance or day jobs to fall back on, our situation is dire.

We humbly ask you to help us out in any way you can. We set up this fundraiser to help us pay for the medical expenses we've already accrued, and for the projected cost of treatments. There are unknowns ahead of us and the possibility for needing more is very real, but we promise to keep you updated and are eternally grateful to the support our friends, family and fans already give us. There's nothing we want more than to be back on the road, and with your help, we could be back out there very soon.

Friends, Fans, Family-

Dave came home on Saturday from his second round of chemo. He is tired, but happy to be home and looking forward to tackling the next round of treatment.

Sometime in late Summer or early Fall, Dave will be receiving a stem cell transplant, which will replace his bone marrow with healthy cells. We are confident that the procedure will be a success and Dave will enjoy full and cancer-free recovery. He will be cared for in Boston, in the hands of the best in the field.

The doctors inform us that the recovery period post-transplant requires a full year of not working and frequent trips to the hospital for monitoring and bloodwork. While it will be difficult for us to stay off the stage and the road for 12 months, we are looking forward to having the time at home to write new material and experiment with some musical ideas we’ve been having.

In the meantime, we’ve been enjoying the words of encouragement you all have been sending, and we will be keeping a donation button at www.brownbird.net to help offset the financial weight of living while off the road. Thanks a million times over for all your incredible support.

We will keep you all updated as much as we can.

Much love,

MorganEve and Dave

Dave's been hanging out at the hospital all week, letting his body respond to the chemo, receiving antibiotics and awaiting the results of his third bone marrow biopsy. He's tired, but keeping his spirits up as much as he can.

Today is the last day of our initial fundraiser, but we'll keep you all updated via twitter (@brownbirdmusic), Facebook (www.facebook.com/brownbirdmusic) and our website (www.brownbird.net). Please keep in touch, and thanks a million times over for your continued support.

The first week of chemo is officially over! Dave is happily resting at home now, awaiting some more test results and the next course of action. Can't thank you all enough. We never thought we'd be dealing with this, and we certainly never thought we'd feel as fortunate as we do while dealing with this. You all are really making this whole thing possible to deal with. Dave's gonna knock this sucker down!

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!

We are moved beyond words at your support for us.  We never imagined we would make our goal in the first 3 days of the fundraiser.  We are so humbled and touched by all of your donations no matter how big or small.  It's amazing to read through the comments you've all left and to feel the love you've sent our way.

We'll be keeping the fundraiser open to help us with future treatment costs and other unforeseen medical expenses.  We'll make sure to keep you all posted on the diagnosis as we learn more in the coming weeks.

Thanks again from the bottom of our hearts,

Dave and MorganEve

We are so overwhelmed by the generocity of our fans and friends. You guys are incredible! We knew that before, but we never imagined we'd come close to meeting our fundraiser goal in just three days. Heartfelt thanks to everyone who has donated, passed this on to their friends, and wrote encouraging messages. One of you said "we're rooting for you. Can you feel it?" Yes, we most certainly can.
We returned home to RI last night and will be seeing a doctor first thing in the morning. Hopefully we will have some more answers shortly afterwards, a clearer idea of what treatments will be (and cost) and how long we'll need to lay low.
In the meantime, Dave is looking good, remains in high spirits and is looking forward to seeing you all soon.
We love you all.

Wow- we are so touched and encouraged by the massive outpouring of support in such a small amount of time! Words can't even express how much this means to us. It's wonderful to see how many people are willing to donate- time, money, blood, bone marrow- it's people like all of you that keep the spirits up, the treatment possible and the world turning. Keep it up.

Just the first of many heartfelt thanks and updates.

We love you.
