HELP US SUPPORT A MAN THAT HAS DONE SO MUCH FOR OUR COUNTRY!!

Elbert Wood, a WW2 Marine Corps veteran, came home to the unthinkable on Jan 21, 2013. His home had been vandalized by 2 boys. The boys had spray painted his walls, furniture, carpeting, television and nearly anything else they could. At 93 years old, Mr. Elbert Wood, though disabled, chooses to remain within his own home that he built 55 years ago in Houston, TX. Just over 2 weeks prior to this incident, Mr. Wood had laid his wife to rest. We are now seeking the funds to send Mr. Wood to Washington D.C., so he may go and see the WW2 memorial. The funds raised will help to cover all expenses for the trip to include airfare, transportation in D.C., food and other expenses for both Mr. Elbert Wood and one caregiver.

On behalf of Mr. Elbert Wood, his family, GruntLife and veterans everywhere, we THANK YOU sincerely.

Today is the last day of our fundraiser for Mr. Wood. It has been a long road repairing his home and raising the money. The amount of help, love and support you all have given is outstanding and we all thank you from the bottom of our hearts. I will be discussing trip details with the Wood family very soon, once I recieve the funds from this site I will make out a check for Mr. Elbert Wood and send it out to him. I'll be posting a confirmation of funds on our facebook page at www.facebook.com/GruntLifeUSA

We have recently heard back from Jim McLaughlin, chairman of Honor Flight. We are pleased to say that we will be working side by side with them on this trip as well so that we may be able to coordinate time with other WW2 veterans as well for Mr Wood to meet with and participate in some of their activites as well.

We here at GruntLife could not be more proud of the support and comments and help to make this trip a possibility for Mr Wood. Thank EVERYONE so very much and thank you Honor Flight for reaching out to us as well.

We have been continuing to talk with Matt Wood, son of Elbert Wood. He continues to send his gratitude on behalf of his father, his family and himself. We at GruntLife are also extremely touched and sincere for all the help on this amazing fundraiser. To think that in less then 48 hours we have already reached $4,320 is simply amazing.

To the supporters of this cause, the pages who have supported us, the individuals and businesses who have helped us, on behalf of the Wood Family and GruntLife and all involved with this fundraiser, a very very sincere THANK YOU!

You all are what make us so proud to be veterans!

On behalf of GruntLife, Elbert Wood, his son Matthew, and the rest of the Wood family, we can not begin to thank you all enough who have donated so far and we would like to continue to thank all who do donate to this also. We have been in touch with the family about this wonderful fundraiser for Mr Elbert Wood, we've been in touch with some of the hotels in Washington D.C., we will also be making arrangements for him to have a wheel chair and have mutliple veteran groups to help show the family around the area and be sure he and the family have an amazing time in Washington D.C.

Pardon me, Mr. Woods, I meant to say we collected funds for Your WW2 "Memorial".... God Bless you. Tish D.

When I finished putting together My Fundraiser, I wanted to see other "Neighbors Helping" on this site... I was so pleased to find your page. First let me say that I'm so very sorry for the mess that these "Punks" did to your home. My only happiness was to see they did not take or distroy your Medals of True Valor... I saw on your photo gallery. So happy to see your Commrades with you. You have more than earned their and all the Country's respect and honor for your time spent in peril, sending the message to the world...As to how America takes care of our own and our Allies. Myself, am disabled and live on SSI, yet I make ways thru every yr. to help others w/ needs. I truly wish I could give someone like you, far more than I'm able..yet know it comes with Love and Sincere Thank You's from myself to a Hero, like you. PS... Back in the 80's before I became disabled, I collected my friends to help me collect funds for the WW 2 Veterans, such as you. Looks like we did some good. I hope your trip was/ or wil be a dream come true for you, Mr. Woods, Sir.

Anne Scott Wood E.O. Wood's daughter
My dad is humbled by you kindness, He can't understand why all the fuss. He doesn't understand why so many people went out of their way to help him. I told him there is something about this country, when we see that someone was done wrong, treated badly, etc. we pull together to make it right. There are words i can't think of them, you have made more than a difference in this country.THANK YOU FOR ALLL THAT EACH OF YOU HAVE DONE FOR MY DAD AND THIS COUNRTY. Ya'll are the true Hero's in more than one way. Thank you for having what is takes to put your life in peril for us. I can't say thank you enough. From a very grateful citizen who loves this country and the armed forces.

Susan S
Thank you Sir, for your service to America. We are here because of you! And I am honored to have this opportunity to write these words, in hopes that you will read them and know how truly grateful we are!

Alex Morgan
The hooligans should just be glad Mr. Wood didn't catch them.. He probably could've take care of them single-handedly. Prayers and best wishes from the Morgan family in South Carolina. Semper Fi.

George
I think I will go to DC with Mr. Wood, if he would let me.

Melanie Branham
I would love to be able to help, but, I'm on a limited disability income, due to health reasons. I hope the police are able to catch the thugs that did that. I hate to hear when people have served and made it home and then something awful like this happens. He is a hero iin my eyes for stepping up and serving in our Military. I will keep him in my prayers !

glad the two little christers were caught. there is something sad about the state of todays society in north america when all veterans canadian and american are being targeted and treated this way. Kids are getting away with too much these days and we as the general public cant do a damned thing. They get a slap on the wrist. My 9 yr old son Stefan when he read about this looked at me completely horrified. He said mum i would nevere do anything like that. That gentleman is a veteran and would be old enough to be my great grandfather. he deserves respect and tobe taken care of not having his things ruined. My 9 yr old also asked if we could donate to this cause.. i told him as soon as i get paid in two weeks i will donate. Sir not all children or teens are like the two disrespectful little jerks that destroyed your home. Thank you from all of our generations that have come after you for serving. god bless and we will be keeping you in our prayers here in Nova Scotia.

Honor Flight Network
Honor Flight Network will continue do whatever it takes to fulfill the dreams of our veterans and help our heroes travel absolutely free. Please contact http://www.honorflight.org/ to arrange transport for Mr. Elbert Wood

There is a program for WWII vets to visit memorial for free. Use the money to take care of his home.

Looked at the pictures & saw the nutcracker that got spray painted. My wife has made & redone some like that. If he wants it repaired, let me know -- my email is in the donors list. I'll take care of the shipping there & back. Glad they caught the kids.

I live in Houston, but unfortunately could not make it over there. Our WWII are living history. Someone needs to sit down with this man and document his time in the service, maybe even document his trip to DC to see the memorial. We cannot let opportunities, like this, to document such history pass us by.

Sir, It is an honor to be able to read of one of this country's greatest heros. Both of my grandfathers served during both big wars and I grew up in a large military family. I was raised to respect anyone brave enough to fight for this country. And I worked hard to instill those same values in my own children. My own son also served although he never served overseas. To see children these days that apparently have no regard for honor and duty is a horrible shame. I was so glad to read your story and see that your brothers-in-arms have been there for you. And it does my heart good to see all the support you are getting from across this great land. Thank you so very much, Sir, for your service to this country. And I would also like to extend my condolenscense on the loss of your wonderful wife. May God Bless and Keep You, Sir.

John
This shows that we stick together and there is more good in the world. Thank God for people that have not just donated but spread the word and prayed. What makes this country so great is the people that are the heart of it.

Rangers Wife
I am just seeing this thanks to a FB post so I am re-posting the story with this link, I am horrified at what was done and we will be donating towards resurrecting this mans life. How hateful our society has become when an elderly mans home cannot be his castle but some punk kids playground....Not on our time! I hope you reach your goal then exceed it!

I would rather hear the boys were involved in this process rather than punished to the fullest extend of the law. It would do them good to see an international community come together in support of one another and to not have a criminal record disqualify them from being able to join that community if the core values they observed inspired them to do so.

Blake, HPD did catch the two punks who did this. In fact, they pretty much caught them red-handed.
