This week, Oxbow lost a member of its farm family in every sense. Tino Hernandez, our senior field crew member, passed away suddenly in his sleep. Tino is survived by his wife Yolanda and their children and extended family. We are all devastated by the loss of our friend and colleague, a gentle giant who was the master of any task on the farm or in the field. It is impossible to describe how hard Tino worked to provide for his precious family and put nourishing food on our plates, and yours.
We’ve received an outpouring of love and concern for Tino’s family, and they are all incredibly grateful for your kindness. We are pooling resources to help provide for Yolanda and her family in this time of great sorrow and need. If you would like to help, any amount you can give will go a long way to help pay for Tino's funeral services and support his family. Financial support is understandably the greatest need at this time. In addition to funeral expenses, Tino’s immediate family will be unable to work for some time, and extra funds will help keep their children in school instead of working to support the family.
We are astounded by the generous support our community has offered for Yolanda and her family in just 24 hours, thank you! We have reached our original goal of $5,000 to cover funeral expenses and are increasing our goal to $20,000 to cover some of the loss of Tino's paycheck and help keep their son in high school.
