It’s 2017 and we are so glad and happy that our organization has been going strong for 7 years!
We’ve operated a community gallery space, and exhibited in Saint Louis, Chicago, Memphis and New Orleans. We developed a teaching artist guide that is socially just. There have been many different youth programs we’ve facilitated over the years, such as Girls Create, Youth Arts Council, Art Achievers and more. Not only have we created experiences for youth, we model an Ella Baker style collective approach and developed “Group Centered Leadership in the Arts,” a professional development opportunity for creatives, and their families.
When we conceived, “Rediscovering the Black Arts Movement, we were excited about being a part of the creative legacy of the Saint Louis metropolitan area. When we researched poets, happenings and stories, Shirley Leflore, and her work was a highlight to honor. We have worked with so many legendary mentors, innovative thinkers and notable people that it would be a disservice to list. We are in gratitude for each sacred moment.
Our work goes beyond, holding community gallery space. We’ve embarked on journeys together as a collective. We have deep connections with our past collective members. We remain active in collective work and cooperative economics while holding on to our artistic practice. We continue to gain from working with other teaching artists, change makers and leadership institutes across the country and world.
In 2017 we are launching our organizational building fund. For those who are or were supporting members, we encourage you to please renew your commitment with us. This year we will deepen our practice and ground ourselves in ways that will continuously be revealed throughout the year. We welcome all new commitments, collaborations and Support. Please consider giving a monetary contribution today. As always, please stop by our gallery location 2907 South Jefferson Ave. Saint Louis, Mo 63118
