Women’s rights are human rights, regardless of a woman’s race, ethnicity, religion, immigration status, sexual identity, gender expression, economic status, age and/or disability. In the spirit of democracy and honoring the champions of human rights, dignity, and justice who have come before us, we are joining the Women’s March on Washington to show our presence in numbers too great to ignore and to send a bold message to our new administration on their first day in office. We stand together in solidarity for the protection of our rights, our safety, our health, and our families - recognizing that our vibrant and diverse communities are the strength of our country, and that defending the most marginalized among us is defending all of us.
On January 21, 2017, our fellow Alabamians will join the Women’s March on Washington to defend these ideals and to ensure that women have parity and equality at all levels of leadership in society.
Forward Alabama has graciously partnered with the Alabama Chapter of the Women’s March on Washington to raise funds for costs associated with organizing the Alabama chapter of the march.
How will these funds be used?
- To provide need-based financial assistance to individuals in Alabama who want to travel to and from Washington, DC via the official chartered buses.
- To provide sundries, including water and snacks, for each of the Chapter’s registered buses.
- To purchase supplies for the Women’s March on Washington, including the Alabama flag under which we will march.
- To cover any necessary costs (permits, etc.) related to the organization of local affiliated marches, should they occur.
The state coordinators and other regional organizers of the Alabama Chapter of the Women’s March on Washington are volunteers and will receive no compensation from these funds.
Forward Alabama is a grassroots group dedicated to galvanizing voters and creating opportunities for all Alabama citizens by promoting the core Democratic principles of fairness, equality and justice. Our leadership has committed to providing Forward Alabama with 5% of any funds raised on the Chapter’s behalf. These funds (and any surplus) will earmarked by Forward Alabama to be spent on actions benefiting women’s empowerment specifically in the state of Alabama. One organization that Forward Alabama has committed to supporting with these funds is Ready To Run, which focuses on training and assisting women to take on political and public leadership roles within the state of Alabama.
Forward Alabama is a registered 501(c)(4) organization, and donations will therefore NOTbe tax deductible.
