Help Us Give Our Birds a Flying Chance!
The Ottawa Valley Wild Bird Care Centre is hoping to raise $100,000 this calendar year. The Centre has seen a dramatic increase in bird admissions over the last three years, with 2016 being one of the largest. It means we are doing a great job at fulfilling our mandate!
However, we are projecting a total of 3,300 admissions this year and with our current donation levels we are able to care for about 2,400 birds. The average cost to care for each bird is approximately $100. To care for these birds adequately we need to be able to pay for food and medication for the birds as well as our staff, and building costs like heat, hydro and general maintenance of the facility.
The Centre relies almost entirely on donations and volunteers. We need your help to continue caring for these injured, sick and orphaned birds!
You Are the Wind Beneath Our Wings.
We are a very small, dedicated team of creative, compassionate and competent bird care providers operating with barebones, strictly controlled administration costs. We've had continued success with over 40% of the birds in our care being released back into the wild. We have an education program in public schools and are expanding our outreach to social media platforms with educational videos and messages. Our goal is to grow these programs while continuing our high level of care.
