The Story

Water for Puerto Rico / Agua Para Puerto Rico is a grassroots, nonprofit organization supplying water filtration and other aid to those in Puerto Rico following this devastating hurricane season. What started as a group a dozen concerned people on social media, led by two friends from high school who refused to let Puerto Rico languish, is now a growing effort by hundreds around the world who have donated thousands of dollars of goods, including aid and water filters, to the people of Puerto Rico. Items are shipped from individuals around the world to the Water for Puerto Rico team in San Juan who see that they're distributed, often to more rural places where aid has been scarce.

In response to the need, we are moving beyond personal filtration systems to large filtration systems for entire towns. This effort will provide safe water to whole communities who are in desperate need.

There's a lot of work to do still!

Six months after life changed for all Puerto Ricans, the daily struggle to access clean drinking water remains very much a reality for many in the island. Our commitment to supply filtration systems remains as strong as ever, and our efforts to deliver them have not relented.

During our water filter distribution trips we have also provided aid to families in need in the form of food, construction supplies and support, as possible and as needed. Our focus remains strongly rooted in clean water supply, however the overall need for relief is strong beyond our means.

In addition to this, we have also had the opportunity to collect water samples to send away for lab analysis. This has helped determine which type and levels of contaminants in the public water supply and various spring water sources. It helps us further focus our efforts to ensure those that do have their water supply restored are able to continue filtering it to make it fit to drink.

While there are those that have had service restored, towns such as Morovis continue to rely on bottled water and contaminated natural sources. Intestinal illnesses continue to affect the residents, and we have the chance to help them.

But we continue to need your support. If you have donated in the past - thank you! You have made a difference. If you have not been able to yet, or if you have donated in the past and have the chance to do so again, please know your contribution is essential to reach those that still need help.

As a 501c3 non-profit, know that your contribution is tax-deductible. Appropriate receipts will be provided to ensure you can take advantage of this.

Thanks for your generosity.

Thank you to all of you who have shared our story and donated.  We have now raised over $6,000 towards our goal, but we still have a way to go.  And today, over 100 days after Maria, much of Puerto Rico still has limited access to water and electric.  The need is still great.  The village of Orocovis remains cut off from the rest of the Island, over 100 days after Maria!  The people have to walk 45 minutes to get out to a road where they can get supplies and water, and then walk 45 minutes back.  Alejandro was there last weekend and is headed back this weekend.  We need to purchase supplies for them, food, (Rice, beans, tomato paste), chainsaws to help clear the road.  If we can raise another $1000 this week, we can do these things.

Won't you help?
