Hurricane María hit our Puerto Rico on September 20, 2017, ten days after being strike by hurricane Irma, both storms left the island’s infrastructure devastated, without power, communication, water supply or primary needs. The current situation has increased the risk of possible contagion, with the spread of viruses and infectious diseases among the population. To complicate the matter even worst, our medicines and vaccines were lost due to floods and lack of electricity.
VOCES, The Vaccine Coalition of Puerto Rico, a 501(c)3 non for profit organization that promotes immunization and preventive care is asking for international and US help through donations that would strengthen the vaccine supplies needed to be administered to the residents of the island by its immunization emergency fund.
The Immunization Emergency Fund for VOCES.org was established by Antonia Novello, MD, MPH, DrPh the first Puerto Rican and Hispanic Surgeon General of the United States and Health Commissioner of New York State in 2001 during the September 11 terrorist attacks.
