The Story

The Vegan Information Project run volunteer, grassroots, vegan education events in Ireland. As we moved into World Vegan Month 2016, we, in association with VEGO (Vegan Education on the Go), had completed well over 300 HOURS of direct-to-the-public vegan education outreach, and recorded and published more than 50 "Vegan Information Day Video Diaries" which are short films documenting our 5-6 hour events. We speak to thousands of people about veganism, about the vegan-friendly eateries in the Dublin area, and we answer all their "vegan curious" questions. We NEVER suggest to anyone that they do less than go/live/be vegan and we believe that veganism is a radical justice-for-all philosophy about peace and ultimate non-violence.

The VIP do at least 5 hours of street education every week in Temple Bar Square, Dublin, and assist on Saturdays in Westmoreland Street. The Thursday events need your help in terms of funding (and, of course, physical help is always appreciated). This is because our Thursday events feature a full 3x3 metre weatherproof gazebo stall, literature, vegan-friendly food samples, videos, goods to exchange for donations, and the VIP "tea station" which is a cafe area where members of the public sit with a vegan volunteer and a free cup of tea and talk about all things vegan.

DUE TO THE SIZE OF THIS EVENT, WE USE A VAN (WE CALL HIM NEVILLE) and most of this fundraiser is to secure the van's yearly costs, and our public liability insurance expenses.

The VIP is an all-volunteer groups, so no funds are spent on wages.

Basic yearly operations cost breakdown...
Van Insurance per year - 478 euro
Van motor tax per year - 333 euro
Van annual vehicle test - 111 euro
Public Liability insurance per year - 345 euro

If we can meet around 1500 euro per year from this fund, we can pay these annual costs, plus van maintenance, etc., and be much freer to develop our campaigns and events. For example, we are very keen to develop this model of vegan outreach in other areas in Ireland.

Times are a-changing for the better for veganism! In the last few months, we at the Vegan Information Project have noticed a marked increase in the number of people saying to us that they've checked out the meaning of veganism, they agree with it, they can see the value and merit of the vegan justice-for-all approach, and they are heading our way.

We have argued for many years that the "problem" of veganism is not health, not nutrition, and vegan philosophy makes all the sense in the world. The "problem" is social - people are brought up in severely speciesist societies. However, like a jigsaw, it seems that all the vegan pieces are falling into place for many people.

Some vegans are critical of the notion of "journey." Why? Isn't that what actually occurs? People make steps towards their goals. The GREAT NEWS that that, for more and more veganism is their goal!

The Vegan Information Project [veganinformationproject.cf] are pleased to announce that we have paid off the last instalment on our wonderful van, known as "Neville."

We would also like to thank very much Declan Bowens of Vegan Education on the Go (VEGO) and the Back Into Daylight Animal Sanctuary for his endless patience waiting for this final payment.

Since the VIP operation is quite large now - including two 3x3m gazebos, weights, a cafe area called the "tea station," and large tables, etc. - "Big Nev" is definitely needed for our weekly 8-hour Vegan Information Day events.

Thank you to all our supporters who cherish grassroots campaigning!

Vegan Information Days continue in Dublin. These 8-hour events reach hundreds of people each and every time. In fact, we meet new vegans every time we go out. Many people are "vegan curious" now-a-days. Vegan education direct to the public in the heart of each community is very important for social change.
