The Vegan Information Project run volunteer, grassroots, vegan education events in Ireland. As we moved into World Vegan Month 2016, we, in association with VEGO (Vegan Education on the Go), had completed well over 300 HOURS of direct-to-the-public vegan education outreach, and recorded and published more than 50 "Vegan Information Day Video Diaries" which are short films documenting our 5-6 hour events. We speak to thousands of people about veganism, about the vegan-friendly eateries in the Dublin area, and we answer all their "vegan curious" questions. We NEVER suggest to anyone that they do less than go/live/be vegan and we believe that veganism is a radical justice-for-all philosophy about peace and ultimate non-violence.
The VIP do at least 5 hours of street education every week in Temple Bar Square, Dublin, and assist on Saturdays in Westmoreland Street. The Thursday events need your help in terms of funding (and, of course, physical help is always appreciated). This is because our Thursday events feature a full 3x3 metre weatherproof gazebo stall, literature, vegan-friendly food samples, videos, goods to exchange for donations, and the VIP "tea station" which is a cafe area where members of the public sit with a vegan volunteer and a free cup of tea and talk about all things vegan.
DUE TO THE SIZE OF THIS EVENT, WE USE A VAN (WE CALL HIM NEVILLE) and most of this fundraiser is to secure the van's yearly costs, and our public liability insurance expenses.
The VIP is an all-volunteer groups, so no funds are spent on wages.
Basic yearly operations cost breakdown...
Van Insurance per year - 478 euro
Van motor tax per year - 333 euro
Van annual vehicle test - 111 euro
Public Liability insurance per year - 345 euro
If we can meet around 1500 euro per year from this fund, we can pay these annual costs, plus van maintenance, etc., and be much freer to develop our campaigns and events. For example, we are very keen to develop this model of vegan outreach in other areas in Ireland.
