United Angels Foundation (UAF) is a non-profit, parent-to-parent support group with a primary mission to support parents and families of individuals with special needs. This is achieved through Interaction, Education, and Resources. UAF believes that the most effective way to support the individual with special needs is by supporting the parents and guardians who are raising them. UAF supports parents of individuals with any disability or special need. UAF aims to bring together parents that have children with similar special needs. We believe creating a collaborative and inclusive environment will ultimately help to promote the healthy development of the child.
With more than 1,200 infants being born in the state of Utah with a genetic or major structural birth defect each year the need is tremendous to reach out to these families and provide assistance. Often times this experience is a traumatic event in the parents lives and they are left to figure it out on their own. Individuals who have a traumatic experience may encounter emotional, physical, and psychological side effects as a result. Those who have suffered through traumatic events or circumstances often experience extreme stress that overwhelms their capacity to cope. Side effect of a traumatic event include a decrease in physical health, emotional well-being, and social life, impacting one's life tremendously. Although some individuals are able to manage their experience over time, many survivors will experience long-lasting problems.
Even though women are at greater risk for negative consequences following traumatic events, many often hesitate to reach out to others for help or to seek mental health treatment. Survivors often wait years to receive help, while others never receive treatment at all. United Angels believes that if they are able to make some form of contact with parents immediately following a diagnosis the likelihood of parents willing to receive help will dramatically increase as well as the success of the family and child with the disability. It is the goal of United Angels to give support to each one of those families experiencing the diagnosis and birth of a child with a disability in Utah and in the future, the Nation.

Angels Among Us Angels Among Us (AAU), is the heart of United Angels mission. It is a free support program that provides guidance and relief to parents when their child is diagnosed and “throughout the life cycle” (from diagnosis through the end of life) with special needs. On average each month, our directors and volunteers are able to meet with 3 new families who have been given the diagnosis of a child with special needs. A parent experience difference challenges and emotions as their child with special needs grows and progresses through life. Angels Among Us is there to support them from the moment of diagnoses and for the rest of their life. In 2018 UAF expects it will cost $54,608 to run our Angels Among Us program.

The iPads4Angels program was created to equip special education classrooms with valuable technology aides, demonstrate the effectiveness of using iPads in special education, and encourage schools to invest in new technology for the education of children with special needs at no cost to the school or students. Since the beginning of this program in 2014 we have been able to impact and place iPads in over 200 hundred classrooms throughout the state of Utah, reaching over 2600 students. Ride to New Heights This program is the first of it’s kind in the state, and is designed to build confidence and independence for children with special needs by teaching them to ride a bike. We partner with iCan Bike to provide training and equipment that has proven effective in teaching children with special needs to ride bicycles. iCan Bike began in 2007 and has successfully taught nearly 20,000 people with disabilities to ride a conventional two-wheel bicycle. In 2017 UAF, with the help of iCan Bike and many volunteers taught 20 individuals with special needs to ride a bike in one week, bringing independence and self confidence to their lives. In 2018 UAF expects it will cost $8,333 to run our Ride to New Heights program.
