$10K for 10 Years of Saturday Lunch!
In 2006, Thursday Supper intern Joe Buzzelli came to us with an brilliant but daunting idea. "There's no weekly free meal on the weekends, so let's create Saturday Lunch!" We thought it was a great idea in a county with high rates of poverty and food insecurity and energetic and committed community and student volunteers. So Saturday Lunch was born!
United Campus Ministry's two weekly free meal programs bridge the Ohio University and Athens communities, provide more than 5,000 meals annually, and twice-weekly opportunities to serve and be served. These programs. and other student and community groups using our space regularly, have caused a lot of wear and tear on our kitchen and dining room. We are committed to providing clean, safe, updated facilities for these programs and this year, we hope to put in new flooring, counters, cabinets and shelving, updated sinks and plumbing, improved ventilation and more. We've been invited to submit a grant to the Sisters' Health Foundation in Parkersburg to cover part of the expenses but need to come up with matching funds. That's where all our friends, former interns, volunteers, community members and fans of UCM and our community meals come in! Please make a generous donation today and share this fundraiser far and wide! And join us on Saturday, October 15 for a special Saturday Lunch 10th birthday party! Thank you!
