The Story

Please support our Special Needs Veterinary Fundraiser

Underdog is often the "Last Chance Rescue" for dogs on Death Row. These dogs are often in need of veterinary care and adoption fees do not begin to cover the costs.

Here are a few of our Underdogs who benefited from our Fundraiser in the past:

Philippe, had a disease called Legg-Calvé-Perthes Disease that involves spontaneous degeneration of the head on the femur bone, located in the dog's hind leg. This results in disintegration of the hip joint (coxofemoral) and bone and joint inflammation (osteoarthritis). The surgery was a complete success and Philippe, now known as Jesse, is enjoying his new lease on life with his brother-dog, Charlie.

Mindy, is our darling terrier with the soulful eyes had an old injury on her front leg that was never taken care of properly, so the result was an amputation of her front right leg. That didn't stop this little dynamo in the least! She got adopted by a loving family and runs around on three legs with any issues at all!

Jacqui, she had foxtails so deeply imbedded in her leg she required two surgeries. Foxtails are so dangerous but we got them removed for a much happier and less stressed pup.

our Distemper Survivor! Benny had two hospital stays and numerous visits to the vet. He survived an incredibly dangerous disease.  He had a will to live, a great foster and the support needed!

Jerry, our senior Chihuahua who came to us with severe skin and ear infections and kidney stones.

Picard, who was attacked by a dog at the shelter and had a broken pelvis and numerous stitches.

Lenny, little darling Lenny spent time in the emergency hospital with pneumonia. It took a long time for this kid to recover, and he did wonderfully.  His foster fell in love and adopted him!

Candace, our ten year old poodle girl who had massive skin issues, horrible teeth and bladder and kidney infections. She was a hot mess when she came here. She is adopted and now knows love!

Gingerbread, the sweetest little poodle/terrier mix  came to us with worms, flea dermatitis and very bad cataracts.  We are taking her to the specialist to see if they can be removed so she can see again. She is only 8 years young, and it would be such a gift for her to be able to see again for the second half of her life.

Oliver, Larry, Koda, Ezra, Oswald and Princess Sophie, these darlings got much needed dental work. A big porblem with a lot of our rescues.

And so many other dogs that are now in loving families and those yet to be rescued.

Please support us so we may help the Underdogs of the shelters, those that are deemed unavailable for the public due to numerous issues from injury to illness.

Thank you so much for your donations! And please share with your friends!

Hello Underdog Supporters!
We are continuing with this fundraiser as we are always in need of veterinary support.  I'll be updating this fundraiser soon with stories of our Underdogs who have gone through injury or illness and the support we receive through our fundraisers help us continue to rescue pups in need!
Thank you!

Frida is an adorable and spunky gal who is seriously loved by her new family. When Frida arrived under the care Underdog Railroad Rescue she was placed in a foster home. We knew she had a heart murmur, but what wasn’t known at the time was how bad it was. With a vet check and tests, we found that Frida has a serious congenital birth defect. This places her in the position of developing congestive heart failure or other complications without intervention. According to the vet-specialist, Frida is a great candidate to have a surgical procedure completed. The diagnosis is Congenital Patent Ductus Arterioles (PDA), and the procedure costs between $2500-$2900 (which includes hospitalization).

Frida is living a full and happy but Frida’s heart condition, has her on the fast track to congestive heart failure, and without surgery, her life would be short and uncomfortable. Frida looks forward to a long and healthy life where she can run without worry.

Please, if you can, make a donation to URR’s Vet Fund so we can provide support to Frida and other Underdogs like her who need medical attention.

With love & happiness...

Hi everyone!
We are almost at the end of the year, and I thought we'd give this fundraiser one more push, to end 2016 with money to take care of our pups special needs. . Vet bills are our big budget item every year, and we often rescue dogs that are in need of major care.  I'd love to see this year end with us meeting our goal for our Special Needs Vet  Fundraiser!  Please consider a year end donation! We are a Charitable Organization and your donation is 100% deductible.
Thank you so much for all you do for our Underdogs!
Love and Happiness,
Jody Kurilla
