The Story

On September 5th, 2017 the White House announced their decision to rescind DACA. Because of the huge negative effects this has on the community, student organizations are currently fundraising in order to help eligible DACA recipients renew their DACA application. The cost of each application is $495 per individual. Our goal is to fundraise at least $5,000 in order to help UCSC DACA recipients be able to pay the application fee by the due date of October 5th, 2017.

We recognize that there are are other resources available and encourage folx to apply to them. However, the funds that are being raised will be specifically used for UCSC students that need to renew their DACA. Additionally, since DACA renewal requests are only being accepted until October 5th 2017, we are looking to provide folx with funding in a quick manner using minimal bureaucracy to ease the process of the disbursement of the funds.

Procedure:The funds raised will be distributed based on need, in order to take an equitable approach. Applications will be reviewed by a committee of students, alumni, and a SOAR advisor. We intends on helping as many students as possible.

Our timeline will go as follows:September 11th: Fundraising beginsSeptember 13th: Application to receive funds opensSeptember 20th: Application to receive funds closesSeptember 21st: Fundraising EndsSeptember 22nd: Applicants will be notified of committee decisions

Eligibility Requirements: We are not sure of the amount of money that we will be able to fundraise. Therefore, only students who are currently enrolled at UCSC are eligible to receive aid.
In order to apply for aid please submit your application by September 20th, 2017. All recipients will be notified by September 22, 2017. Applications will open Wednesday, September 13th, 2017. Please stay tuned for the application process.
