The Story

Tuckerman is a sweet 12 yo Golden retriever that looks and acted like a much younger pup before his health took a sudden downturn. As recently as mid-May he was skiing with me and acting playfully as he always has.

Recently we noticed that it seemed like someone pulled the plug on Tuckerman. Instead of jumping up and grabbing a ball to greet us when we came home, he just laid there and looked at us and we were lucky to get a wag or two of his tail.

The initial vet check up showed that something was up with his blood work and an X-Ray showed that his heart is slightly enlarged. Next we took him for an Ultrasound and that showed a tumor on one of his Adrenal Glands possibly causing Cushings Disease.

Further, an Echocardiogram was done to find that he had a clot in his Pulmonary Artery which we are treating with Plavix and Heparin injections which is helping to reduce the size of the clot and providing relief with his shortness of breath.

Update: Tests show that it is Cushing's Disease and we have started treatment with Vetoryl which is also expensive and requires regular testing to ensure the correct dosage.

This is the best four legged companion I've ever had and it seems everyone loves Tucker! I'm sure he has more quality years in him if we can get the help we need to provide the proper treatment.

Any help that you could provide would be greatly appreciated because Tucker wants to get back out there again!

Thank you very much,
George & Bonnie

I am happy to report that Tuckerman continues to be doing well on the meds for his Cushing's Disease. As well, his last follow-up Echocardiogram with his Cardiologist showed that the Thrombus in his Pulmonary Artery had been resolved with the meds for that and so he has been cleared the doctor and no further follow-up is necessary with Cardiology!

He had a blood test on Monday to check to ensure the dosage of his Vetoryl which is treating his Cushing's was correct and it was, so no need to go up on the dosage which is great news. He seems much better and is engaged with us, more alert and seems to be a happier boy. It's like we are getting our buddy back!

Next check is in 6 weeks and we are looking forward to continued improvement as he continues with the medical treatment. I understand we need to be patient as it takes time for his coat and muscle strength to come back. We are exercising him gently in order to help him get back in shape as his strength permits.

We are very thankful for the help our friends have given us with his vet bill fundraiser. While I am disappointed for having missed this early on, I am just thankful that we finally put the clues together and got the help of some great Veterinary care to find the answer to his issues and that there was a medical treatment that seems to be working!

Hello Friends of Tuckerman-

We are pleased to report that Tucker seems to be responding well to the medicine for the treatment of his Cushing's Disease without any ill effects. He is drinking about half as much water as he was drinking before and as a result having to go out half as much. As well, he is panting much less and seems to have good energy and be in generally good spirits!

We are grateful for the help that those who have contributed have provided with his vet bills as they are still coming in. The medicine is expensive and there is a need for follow-up testing to ensure that he is on the proper dosage so as not to go the other way into Addison's Disease. We look forward to determining the proper dosage so that he doesn't need so much blood work to be done.

Thanks again to all how have helped and we hope that others will consider making a contribution to help us reach our goal by month's end. Crowdfunding works when everyone does something to help...Every little bit helps!

Hello Friends of Tuckerman~

We have just received the results from yesterday's testing at Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital and it was the news we were hoping for. This test showed that the initial test for Cushing's Disease was wrong, Tuckerman does indeed have Cushing's Disease which is a treatable condition!

He goes for his follow-up Echocardiogram with his Cardiologist on Friday and we are hopeful that it will show that the clot in his Pulmonary Artery is getting smaller and that the meds for that are helping. We believe this is the case just from his increased level of comfort and activity!

Thank you for your continued positive thoughts and prayers, I believe this is helping too. I have increased our goal for this fundraiser as we have now exceeded $2400 in diagnostic testing and the meds thus far. We have a ways to go with costly meds and follow-up testing, and I am encouraged that with the great care that he's getting we will get Tuckerman Back Out There Again!

Thank you to all who have helped out thus far and for those who are considering a contribution to the ongoing expense, we would really appreciate the help.

George, Bonnie and Tuckerman
