The Story

The Story of Tom, Mindy & the Pancreatic Tumor

This story of Pancreatic Cancer is entwined in Mindy’s and my growing relationship, a relationship that was only eleven months new when the first symptoms appeared in late 2013. It is a love story, and it is the story of an emotional ordeal that is now turning into a financial challenge.

I survived surgery and chemo and I am now 20 months past the surgery in excellent health with my Liver Enzymes (key leading indicators of anti-cancer health) almost back to normal. But 20 months is just the median survival time for patients who have had my kind of surgery, and blood tests this spring and summer do show that I have circulating tumor cells in my blood. I am by no means out of the woods. It is critical that I continue my holistic healthcare regimen to prevent metastasis and to keep my immune system strong.

That is why I am asking for your help. My monthly out-of-pocket medical expenses for testing, treatments and supplements are $1,900, and $1,100 of that is coming out of what is left of my quite depleted lifetime savings. We have already opened up our guest bedroom for airbnb clients, and that provided helpful income this summer and will continue to do so during the skiing season. My new Energy Medicine Practice is also beginning to provide some income, yet even with these two extra income sources, we are still $1,100 a month short.

With your contribution you will in effect be paying forward for other cancer patients and clients that I will be treating in the future as my Energy Medicine (EM) Practice grows. Our gift to you for your donation of $250 or more will be a 75-90 minute EM session in Durango. And for your donation of $500 or more Mindy and I together will gift you a two and half hour combined Massage and EM session in Durango. Of course we would also welcome you as a new client at our normal rates.

Here are links to our entire story. Thank you for taking the time to consider our appeal.

Fundraiser Updates

In the last two weeks we've raised another $1750 -- $320 on this site and another $1430 in cash and checks. That brings total donations to $6051 which is 39% of our $15,600 target. A heartfelt 'Thank You' to all who have supported me!

Yesterday my Nia teachers Evonne, Ashley and Kim organized a Nia Jam fundraiser for me at the Interplay Studio in Durango's Smilley Building. You can see a short video from that event here:

This next week I'll be getting blood drawn for a follow-up analysis by RGCCto see how effectively we have been in dealing with the circulating tumor cells discovered in August. That test will cost me 625 Euros ($700 at the latest exchange rate.)

We have raised a total of $4301 -- $2801 through the fundraising website and another $1500 in checks and cash. This has certainly been helpful, but other things have not worked out as we had hoped. We were getting a good monthly contribution from our AirBNB room during the summer and the long fall, but we have not had ANYAirBNB clients since early November, so my credit card debt is approacing its limit, and we are beginning to look at what supplements, tests and procedures we might eliminate to stay solvent. So this is a time when your contribution (or simply sharing this with your friends and family) can REALLY HELP!
The good news is that the results of my monthly blood tests have continued to improve. All of the Liver enzyme tests are now withing their normal, pre-tumor condition. Only one measure of inflammation (C-Reactive Protein, Cardiac) is still out of range -- but in January it was at it lowest reading since we started measuring it.
In Early February, I need another 625 Euros ($675 at today's exchange rate) for another Research Genetic Cancer Center (RGCC: blood test to recheck the level of circulating tumor cells in my blood. I have been taking the antidotes indicated by the full set of RGCC tests that we did this August, and the improving Lab results suggest that we may have made some progress here.

The best and most direct way you can help is to make a donation. In addition you can help by forwarding this message to friends or family who might become donors. You could also forward this to somone who is also dealing with cancer and might benefit from my experience as described in Parts III and IV of my story.

Please consider making a donation today, and please forward this message to those who might also be able to help.

Thank you for your support -- both emotional and financial -- and for your generosity of time and spirit!!
