The Story

Amy and Bryan Walker have been blessed with three children, Evelyn (6), Jack (3), and Owen (1), each of whom, unfortunately, has a medical diagnosis.  The Walkers are such a happy, kind, compassionate family.  They are making the best of the difficulties they're facing, and our support goes a long way to help them.

When Amy was 20 weeks pregnant with Jack, she discovered that Jack had a congenital heart defect, Tetralogy of Fallot. Because of necessary precautions, like avoiding even common colds that could risk Jack's life, Amy left her career as an oncology nurse to care for her newborn baby.  Jack had his first open heart surgery at 4 1/2 months old. Jack is thriving, but continues close monitoring as he will need future heart surgeries to adapt to his growing body and its demands.

Baby Owen was born healthy. In August 2017, at 9 months old, he was diagnosed with B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Earlier in the summer, Amy and Bryan had discovered two lumps in different locations on Owen's body.  A biopsy led to the discovery of abnormal B cells supporting this very devastating diagnosis.  Because of Owen's very young age and a genetic marker on the cancer cells, he has begun a rigorous chemotherapy that will last approximately 3 years.

In November 2017, six year old Evelyn was surprisingly diagnosed with Absence Seizure Disorder.  The Walkers are in the learning phase of Evelyn's diagnosis, gathering more information from tests and formulating a plan with her care team.  Evelyn's diagnosis on it's own is very upsetting, but the addition of her diagnosis to Owen's and Jack's is especially difficult.

The Walkers are very generous with their time and have a strong commitment to give back.  For years, Amy and Bryan are actively involved in the Pediatric Congenital Heart Association. Three years ago, they started a Ronald McDonald Give Thanks Comfort Bag project at Thanksgiving, where they bring comfort items to families staying at RMDH.

This beautiful family needs our help. Please join us as #WalkersWarriors and donate toward their current and future medical expenses.  Your donation is so helpful!
