The Story

11/28: Please include #YouCaringGives2017 in the comment field of your donation. It can help us win a donation from YouCaring.

Update: 10/18:

Our best numbers so far are nearly 40 SRTA educators lost their homes to the fires and more than 100 were displaced. Seven of our members lost their classrooms when Hidden Valley Satellite School burned. We are putting money directly into their hands as fast as possible to help them out during these difficult times.

This is by no means all of the educators who were impacted by the fires but we don't have information about educators in other districts.

-------------

The #TubbsFire is raging uncontrolled in Sonoma County. Santa Rosa Teachers Association has confirmed that at least thirty of our members have lost everything to the fires. (as of 10/12/17 in the morning). Dozens more are displaced.
This fundraiser is to generate funds for our Member Support Fund to support these teachers as they begin to rebuild their lives.

All funds raised are being put directly in the hands of educators who are in need. We have increased our goal significantly because we discovered how much more need we have.

First off, Thank you so very much for your generous donations. They mean the world to our teachers, counselors, and other members who you have supported.

I apologize so much that we haven't updated you over the past month. We all returned to school either Friday, October 27th or Monday, October 30th including our members who lost homes or who were still evacuated (we still have a few who are evacuated). All of our members have come back and are once again giving support, and comfort to all of our students, especially those who lost homes.

Tomorrow is #GivingTuesday, a day that many use to focus support for those in need. We are still about $14,000 short of our goal. SRTA has given around $50,000 in grants.

Please share our fundraiser with your friends and family tomorrow. When you do so ask that they use the hashtag #YouCaringGives2017 in the comment field of their donation. It will help us win a donation from YouCaring. You can share this short link bit.ly/SRTAfund it goes to this campaign.

Once again, thank you so very much for all of your generous support.

First of all thank you so very much for all of your generous donations. They are greatly appreciated by all of SRTA but especially by the grant recipients.

SRTA is currently processing or has completed $47,000 in grants to 32 of our members who lost their homes and to another 109 who were displaced by the fires. We are still receiving new grant requests daily.

In response to having the grants taken care of with a minimal amount of paperwork, a member said, “Thank you so much. That is a big relief. Sorting through tons of details right now, so I’m happy I don’t need to worry about that. Thank you for all you are doing to help.”  “Thank you to SRTA.  We are feeling so supported.”

There is still a lot of need out there as teachers get ready to return to school to support our students, their families, and the community at large. We would greatly appreciate it if you could share the link to our donation page with your friends and families. bit.ly/SRTAfund

Thank you again for all of your generous donations!

Today Santa Rosa Teachers Association (SRTA) distributed $6000 to members who lost their homes in the Santa Rosa fire. Tomorrow we will be distributing a lot more. We know of more than 30 teachers who have lost everything, dozens more were evacuated and still have not been able to return home.

We want to thank from the bottom of our hearts every one who generously donated to support educators in Santa Rosa.

We managed to get a ride along and have managed to photograph what is left of one of our member's homes.
