Begin Within Therapy Services is raising funds to pay the fees associated with training a therapy/psychiatric service dog (our dog will be a unique hybrid of the two) who would offer it's services to the community through our therapy services, as well as volunteer work in the community. Your contribution goes directly to Argos K9 which is a non-profit organization (501c3) and therefore your contribution is tax deductible. Please scroll down for "fun"draising levels. Any contribution is appreciated!
There are numerous research studies that show the benefits of animal-assisted therapy for both children and adults. In particular related to symptoms of emotional and behavioral disorders, post traumatic stress disorder, autism, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and trauma there has been great success in incorporating animals into the therapeutic process. Our aim is to offer this as part of a treatment option to members of our great community. Benefits to clients and communities in which we volunteer include: reduction in stress, boost in self-esteem, improved mood and better communication skills. Especially in traumatic storytelling, the presence of a dog can be essential to offer comfort when going over distressing details. Kids will sometimes tell the dog in the presence of their therapist because that's how they might feel most comfortable at first. We hope our work will include providing more services to our veterans and first responders as well. For example, the dog will be trained to do things like provide comfort, as a command, and would walk over to the person and put their head on their knee. These types of dog's volunteer in the community on a regular basis: in hospitals, nursing homes, group homes and other areas where comfort is needed. This dog will be out in our community helping others on a regular basis, as well as helping our clients in their therapeutic process. The training process is a long one. Once 8 weeks old, the pup will go into training with Argos K9 for 12-15 months. A lot of this training occurs at Argos, but the dog will also be trained in our office so that each therapist will be able to act as the dog's handler during the therapy session.
Any amount contribution is welcomed and greatly appreciated!
