The Story

The Farmory is transforming a vacant armory into a year-round indoor farm and yellow perch hatchery - the first of its kind in the country - where local growers, fish scientists, and community members will take part in the creation of a new local food economy. The Farmory's purpose is to increase the self-sustainability of our neighbors and community members by growing: good food, more growers, and job and entrepreneurial opportunities.

Our Future:With 50 indoor soil-based aquaponics systems, each of them 4-5 levels high, we will be able to produce 173,000 pounds of mixed salad greens in a single year! Our hatchery will spawn 300,000 yellow perch and approximately 42,000 of those will grow to adult size in our aquaponics systems that involve fish and plants sharing water. Our yellow perch and produce will be available for sale to the public in various locations; local restaurants, schools, and health care institutions. The proceeds from these sales will fund Farmory operations throughout the year!

We are currently $1 Million into our capital campaign of $3.4 Million. This will allow us to renovate our historical armory building, build 50 aquaponics systems, and install a bio-secure yellow perch hatchery. Even though we don't have our building completely renovated, our team of 60+ volunteers are still working hard to achieve our mission! We have delivered 10 free educational workshops so far, currently offer tours and field trips to the community, and are inspiring more and more people to begin growing their own food. We sell the produce from our demonstration system weekly to The Cannery Public Market. West De Pere High School is also the first school to receive our second system and consulting services to train their staff and students in how to operate it and incorporate it into their curriculum and school meals.

Join our food revolution and help us grow a sustainable food system here in Green Bay, Wisconsin!

Thank you for showing your support of The Farmory and our growing presence in Green Bay, Wisconsin! The $1,780 that you generously donated to our 2018 education and mission programming on #GivingTuesday is doubled to $3,560 because of our anonymous matching donor!! That means that we are 35.6% into reaching our goal of $10,000 by the end of this year. Because we are a small, local non-profit, your money isn't going to fancy office equipment or salaries, it's invested directly back into our community. Thank you for choosing to be an essential part of our journey and for helping us increase the self-sustainability of our neighbors by growing good food, growing growers, and growing job skills & entrepreneurial opportunities! #GrowTheFarmory #TeachLearnGrow #GetYourFarmOn
