The British Virgin Islands have been devastated by the passage of Hurricane Irma which has left almost 80% of the islands’ infrastructure (homes, schools, shelters, businesses, medical facilities etc.) damaged or destroyed.
As a Caribbean territory, June to November is always a season of heightened awareness. In observing strict engineering standards which are continuously updated, we build infrastructure to sustain stormy weather. However, nothing could have ever prepared those in the British Virgin Islands for one of the most violent and destructive storms in recorded history.
Sadly there have been fatalities. Many families have lost almost everything but it has not broken their spirits. They find peace and hope daily in the fact that today will better than yesterday regardless of the trials and tribulations of yesterday.
We are simply a group of BVI families and friends living in New York that are asking for your assistance to help those who are currently in the BVI and are living through this nightmare.
Please join us in donating whatever you can. All proceeds will be used to source supplies such as but not limited to tarps and sleeping cots for shelters, generators for basic refrigeration, building supplies (plywood etc.), kerosene lanterns, baby supplies (formula and diapers) and non-perishable foods to send to the islands as residents take it one day at time in trying to overcome this. No donation is too small and will help those hurting and in need at this time. A list of needed supplies especially cots and tarps can be found by accessing this link.
I can only humbly assure you that we are only doing our part to use whatever resources we obtain to help our beloved British Virgin Islands and have no hidden motives in our efforts.
Thank you for your consideration and please keep the many displaced families in your thoughts and prayers.
**Please note: Donations to this relief effort are not tax deductible as we do not have 501c3 status. 100% of the funds collected will go directly towards sourcing relief supplies and sending them to the British Virgin Islands Community.
