The Story

Our school district is in the midst of a serious financial crisis.  Travel to national invitational tournaments and national championship tournaments has been suspended.

The members of our District's Forensics Teams need your help!  Labeled "The Super 8" in the national media, the members of our team recently took a first place victory at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Forensics Tournament hosted by James Logan HS in Union City, California.  They are now preparing to compete in the Barkley Forum for High Schools in Atlanta, Georgia.

One of our country's most successful programs, the HPSD Forensics program is the ONLY program in the nation to have produced two National Forensics Students of the Year!  (Cory Williams-2010 and Jarrius Adams-2015) HHS Forensics has also received three NSDA School of Excellence awards in the last five years with multiple final round appearances!

AFTER WINNING THE FIRST FOUR Mississippi invitationals, two of our students finished 1st and 3rd at the Isidore Newman School Debate tournament in New Orleans, Louisiana.  Earlier that month, nine states and over 400 students competed at the Denver East High School Invitational held on the campus of the University of Denver hosted by the Sturm School of Law. Hattiesburg Forensics made it’s national circuit debut by dominating the national meet winning half of all events offered at the national invitational! Three of the top five students overall were from Hattiesburg HS!!

HPSD is a Title I district with a student population that is approximately 97% African-American.  The majority of our students are economically disadvantaged.  Our Forensics programs have provided students with immeasurable opportunities for success both in and out of the classroom.  Our programs boast a 100% graduation rate and every single graduate of this program has attended college after graduating from high school.

Many of the students in this program are seniors and these upcoming national competitions will provide them with their final opportunities to showcase their talents prior to graduation.  They have earned this honor!

Our students would appreciate any donation in support of their hard work.

Ladies and Gentlemen, EVERY HHS ENTRY IS IN FINALS!!!!!!  That means that 1/2 the field, 3 of the 6 finalists in Dramatic Interpretation are from Hattiesburg HS, 2 of the 6 in Duo Interpretation finals are from HHS, HI finalist, OI finalist.

This is the best performance by HHS at a NATIONAL invitational in my tenure at Hattiesburg HS considering the circumstances.  IN THE FACE OF THE GREATEST ADVERSITY, they have triumphed once again for their school, their city.  How could anyone not appreciate their effort this weekend.  Imagine if I could have brought the balance of our squad!!

These are my children and I am going to fight for them.  I thank all who have joined me.
