The Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page for the Team Hoyt. Team Hoyt, and the Hoyt Foundation, is dedicated to helping young people living with disabilities to become active members of their communities. It was inspired by Dick Hoyt and his dedication to his son Rick who was born a quadriplegic with cerebral palsy. The above video tells an inspirational story about the father-son duo's dedication.

I vividly remember the first time I witnessed Dick pushing Rick in my first Boston Marathon. I've seen them run several times since, and each time I could not help becoming emotional, even while running. As my 50th birthday nears, I realize how very fortunate I have been to be able to run as well as participate in other physical activities. I also realize that I have taken these abilities for granted. In support of the Foundation's efforts, I have decided to raise a minimum of $5,000 for the Hoyt Foundation by April 18, 2016 and wish to present the funds to Dick Hoyt and the Foundation at the Boston Marathon next year.

Please take a moment to watch the video and consider making a contribution to this worthy cause.

Sincerely,
Koji Kawano

Hello dear donors!

I wanted to send you an update about result of my first challenge. My challenge was to achieve elevation gain of 5,000 meters while I run in the month of July. I am happy and relieved to report that I climbed total of 5,037 meters (16,526 feet)! You can see the proof of my effort here: https://www.strava.com/athletes/1191434/trophy-case

Though I have run longer distance in one month before, this was the highest elevation gain I ran, EVER! I admit it was rather difficult. Now, I am brainstorming about my next challenge to solicit more donation, so stay tuned! =)

Thank you again for your donation!

Sincerely,

Koji

Kilian Jornet Climbing Challenge on Strava

In the month of July, I am doing this challenge to climb 5,000 meters running. To provide some context, the highest peak in California, Mt. Whitney is 4,421m high and I usually gain elevation no more than 2,000m/month during my marathon training. You can check up on my progress on my Strava page: http://www.strava.com/athletes/1191434/interval_type?chart_type=elev_gain&interval_type=month&interval=201507&year_offset=0
