The Story

We launched The 48 Hour Miracle in August, 2015. At that time we had 48 hours until the first auction for Carver Community Center and we started an effort to fundraise to purchase the property at 700 Craig St. in Schenectady, NY. Donations started to pour in from the community but, we were nowhere close to our $200,000 goal. We showed up to every auction with a community presence—sending a message that we wanted this property to remain a community center and a resource for families in our neighborhood. With time, our campaign name changed to The Miracle on Craig Street. This grassroots initiative to save our community center and change our story will truly be a miracle.

The property at 700 Craig St. was held for its last auction on November 4th, 2015 where it was approved to be abandoned by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court. We are anticipating that the property will go into municipal foreclosure and the city will gain site control. We are optimistic that the city will stand with Miracle on Craig St. and support our efforts in obtaining the property.

We have had many successful community events including but not limited to Baking for Carver, Cooking for Carver, Poetry in Motion, and our first Telethon at Robb Alley. Two of our largest contributions have come from the gracious First Reformed Church and Eastern Parkway United Methodist Church. To date we have raised around $31,000. We are very thankful to all of our supporters and volunteers who have helped to put on our various different fundraisers to support our work.

Good Morning MOC Community,

We had an amazing event on Saturday!!! Thank you to everyone who helped make our first Interfaith Peace Run/Walk successful. It was very beautiful to see the people who support us come out to Colonie to participate in this 5k Fundraiser. It was also amazing to see the celebration of different faiths at this event. We had a total of 114 people registered for this event. Kareem Robertson was the first man across the finish line repping that good ole’ MOC. We are very grateful to all of the people who sponsored runners and walkers from our community. We could not have been successful without the help of many for this event. Thank You all!
