We began our day this morning with our traditional breakfast at the Clabber Girl. While Fr Bedel's (St Patrick's pastor) plans changed with late notice, we were able to track down two priests at St Benedict a short distance from the restaurant to give us a blessing. We then drove to the Illinois state line, prayed a decade of the rosary, and started on our way. A special thanks to Steve and Susan Stanich who woke up early to drive the bikers to the start line, and to Sarah Lattire for coming all the way out to see us off as well.
Perfect riding weather today, overcast and not too hot. No flat tires, and we made pretty good time, stopping to pray another decade of the rosary about half way through. Four and a half hours after getting on our bikes we arrived at the past grand knight's house in Greencastle. The only interesting part was the last half hour where we rode from SR-40 into town, it started raining pretty good. Nothing dangerous though.
Ed and Kathy, our hosts for the evening have been great to us. Fed us, took us to the brewery he's been helping get started, shared some incredible stories of their faith journey, showed us all the cool projects Ed's had around the house, and prayed the remainder of the rosary with us. They've been incredibly generous to sleep and feed 8 of us (5 bikers, the state K of C pro-life director Mike Velasco, and our faithful support vehicle drivers Bob and Marty Heck).
Praise God for a safe first day of riding!
