As many of you may already know, David Durnell recently passed away. As David’s close friends and family, the weight of this bears heavily on us all and as this news spreads, many of us are left hoping and wishing that there is something we can do. This has been a tragic and sudden loss for everyone. David was a brilliant individual - beloved by those fortunate enough to know him and a true son of the city of Atlanta. He was a legend of the service industry and the impact he has had on that culture in Atlanta specifically will live on for years to come.
Many have asked if there is any way they can help support the family in this time of mourning and loss. One way that we can help is to provide support financially. Given the tumultuous time, David’s family has not yet made any decisions as to how financial contributions will be spent. Whatever the family decides, it will be the right decision.
Partnering with us on this fundraiser will be The Giving Kitchen (TGK), which is a nonprofit charity based in Atlanta, GA. TGK was inspired by an outpouring of support from the hospitality industry when Atlanta chef Ryan Hidinger was diagnosed with last stage cancer in December 2012. The Giving Kitchen provides emergency assistance grants to Atlanta’s restaurant community facing unanticipated hardship. Matching Grants provide an opportunity where TGK will match all funds raised on behalf of David Durnell up to $2500.
This is going to be a hard and long road for everyone involved. We must all try our best to be strong and available to each other for support and we will get through this together. Although there will be lots of tears and we will all be mourning David’s passing together, let’s all try and make this a celebration of the life David led and a time to reflect on our fond memories and abundant love for him.
