The Story

Rescue Warrior Murdered
On 18 July 2016, the world lost a true advocate for animals. Suzanne Perez aka Zanne Brookks the PittBullWarrior was tragically shot & killed by her long term boyfriend.

Zanne leaves behind 11 dogs (3 have already been placed) and a very large wonderful pot belly pig.

Since no family members have been found for Zanne, our goal for this fundraiser is to provide vetting for the remaining animals (includes all shots, spay/neuter, microchip, medical exam, nail/hoof trim [if needed] health cert, etc) and to transport them to forever homes, safe sanctuary and/or rescue organizations.

Zanne was a staunch pitbull advocate and warrior against BSL (Breed Specific Legislation). Most if not all of her dogs are pitties. Our dear friend literally gave her life for her animals and would want them protected.

We will help facilitate in every way we can to honor her wishes. Donations of any amount welcomed.

Oscar, the pot bellied pig formerly known as Babe, has achieved some celebrity status! He was featured by Newman's Own Foundation in a recent article titled "From Abandoned to Adored".

His life has been completely & forever transformed. Rising Dove Rescue is proud to have played a key role in his placement at Green Chimneys Sanctuary.

Oscar loves all the attention he gets from the staff & the children. As can be expected, he relishes the fresh, healthy food that now comprises his diet and loves his space with the fresh hay in which he likes to hide his toys.

The five remaining doggies have rescue placement and will be traveling in the first week of March. Charity & Beetlejuice were to have been transported earlier this month but BJ was mucous-y, and the vet could not sign off on health cert. Maximus, Brutus & Marcella have been awaiting better weather conditions for transport, and are slated to be picked up early in March.

We will post additional updates as these doggies wind their way to their new lives. All of this comes at a cost, so again, thank you so much for your support for Suzanne's precious babies! It is much appreciated.

We have a wonderful update! King has been adopted!!

From King's foster:
"Hey there! King was with me for about two weeks before he was adopted by a nice lady who was looking for an emotional support animal.

While he was with me, we did a LOT of cat training. He didn't care for them before he arrived but soon thereafter he got used to them, and by the time he left, he even drank out of the same water bowl with them!

I had immediately thought of King when the inquiry came in for an emotional support animal, and sent her pictures of & information about him. King is so quiet and sweet — and in need of some healing himself — I thought it could be a match.

And it was! He's been in his new home for about a week now and is doing fabulously! He's living on a college campus and is enjoying all the snuggles he can get!"

Good boy, King! Sissy & Kyla are still in foster in Iowa, and are settling in well. We are hoping to get the remaining 5 doggies temp tested this week.

We have rescue interest in the 3 remaining boys, and hope to have interest in the two girls, Charity & Marcella — both of whom are very easy going & get along with all — very soon.

Babe the pot belly pig, now known as Oscar, continues to thrive at the NY sanctuary. He really loves his apples & pretzels!

We are about halfway to our goal of $3500 for Suzanne's animals, thanks to the tremendous outpouring of love for Suzanne and your generous donations so far.

This has been a busy & productive week. The dogs have had their "adoption services" package which includes spay/neuter, shots, microchip, dental check, HW test, nail trim as needed, and health cert.

Babe, the pot belly pig, had a farm visit by a local vet. During the exam, tusks were trimmed, de-wormer administered, and as Babe was determined to be somewhat thin and because conditions made proper care difficult, the vet decided to foster Babe at his property.

Once we receive the medical notes on the dogs & Babe — hopefully this next week — we will have a better understanding of what is needed next for each animal and we will update again.

Thank you all for your continuing support. Please keep networking so we can get the requisite care & placement for these animals. Let us honor Suzanne by doing what she was prevented from doing herself.
