The Story

PEDAL believes in unity and support, especially during times of crisis.   Right now the people of Ecuador need your help.  With 700 dead and thousands wounded, the 7.8 magnitude earthquake has destroyed the entire coastal region of Ecuador.  In light of this natural disaster, PEDAL for Change is leveraging our resources and global network to contribute to the the relief effort.  We are using the funds we are raising through our YouCaring campaign in a two-phased project.  First, we are contributing to immediate emergency relief by purchasing food, water, insect repellent, and other living essential for earthquake survivors in the coastal region who have been left without shelter or belongings.  Secondly, we are investing in a sustainable solution to the ongoing water crisis that has followed in the wake of the earthquake.  We are using the funds we raise to fundraise, purchase, ship, and distribute water filters to the coastal region.  This aligns with PEDAL’s mission of sustainability and provides vital, safe drinking water for those in need.

As we are based in Ecuador, we are handling the purchase and distribution of goods ourselves.  Many relief efforts are focused on larger cities so small communities don't receive the attention they need.   So, we are ensuring that every dollar donated to our cause goes towards its intended purpose by doing everything ourselves.  We are the fundraisers and distributors, not the middlemen, and we are personally placing the donated goods into the hands of earthquake survivors in need.

Each filter has a total cost (including fundraising, shipping, taxes, distribution) of $150.  Our goal is to supply Ecuadorians with 100 water filters as soon as possible.  Please support Ecuador and PEDAL for Change during this time of crisis!

We have completed distribution of 250 water filters due to the generous donations of our supporters.  We were able to distribute 182 more filters than we originally had raised funds for because of anonymous donations.  Thank you so much and please check out the video of our efforts.

My dear supporters!

I can't explain to you how pleased we are with your support.  As you know, recently we have visited the affected area (Manabi)and have encountered a small community that until recently has not received any support.  They were shocked to see us there handing out goods.  We also discovered that in larger cities such as Bahia de Caraquez, other organizations have handed out water filters and people were using them!  We were so happy to see that the filters were making an impact.  So, we have decided to focus our efforts particularly on the small community that is not receiving any help.  Our new goal is to hand out 100 water filters to these small communities in between Jama and Canoa.  We are almost half way to our goal.  Please keep spreading the word.  We only need 50  donors to sponsor a water filter and we will reach our goal.  Thank you so much!
