Walk The Walk: Feed SPCPA Students in need! Please donate $10 or more today!
Paul Coate is hiking the 310-mile Superior Hiking Trail on the North Shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota from August 5 to August 25 to raise at least $3100 to create a food pantry for students in need at St. Paul Conservatory For Performing Artists, a charter high school for the arts in St. Paul, MN. The $3100 goal equates to $10 for every mile of his 310-mile hike. Paul will achieve the completion of his journey and this fundraiser by his 42nd birthday at the end of August.
Help Paul “walk the walk” for SPCPA's students by donating $10 to have Paul hike a mile of the Superior Hiking Trail in your honor!
The mission of SPCPA is “to provide the highest caliber academic and artistic education for aspiring pre-professional performing artists in the areas of instrumental and vocal music, theatre, and dance, and to fully prepare students for college and conservatory”. SPCPA serves Twin Cities metro-area students from across the geographic and economic spectrum. The school lacks a functioning cafeteria, and students are at the mercy of their family’s financial ability to provide sustenance for their child during the school day. Those students who would be eligible for free-and-reduced lunch are not able to receive such assistance. The creation of a food pantry specifically for students eligible for free-and-reduced lunch will greatly impact the daily lives and potential of students in need at SPCPA.
Paul Coate is a Twin Cities stage actor (member AEA), director, and educator who teaches music and theatre at SPCPA in St. Paul, MN and in the theatre program at Normandale Community College in Bloomington, MN. When Paul works with young artists, he teaches them to not just dream of a life in the performing arts, but to “walk the walk” - to do what is healthy, right, and necessary to achieve their goals. Part of that equation is to have healthy nourishment, which is essential and directly tied to the success of students in the classroom and artists on the stage.
NOTE: This is an independent fundraiser conceived and administered by Paul Coate and is NOT affiliated with or managed by SPCPA or any other organization. Paul promises to fulfill his requirement to complete this hike by August 25 except in the case of life-threatening or severely debilitating illness or injury while on the trail. All proceeds raised on this page will be donated by Paul Coate to SPCPA at the end of August to provide free food items for students in need for the 2017-2018 school year.
Special thanks for local support from Lyric Opera Of the North (Duluth, MN) and Temperance Traders (Schroeder, MN). For those interested in making an additional gift to help defray the cost of Paul’s supplies and expenses, contact Paul directly at [email protected].
