St. John's College is a Catholic, boys secondary school situated in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. The school is trying to resurrect field hockey. As part of this strategy, in 2016 we sent our 1st XI hockey team to the National Tournament, and we would like to do this again in 2017. The 2017 tournament is being held from 4 to 8 September in Stratford, Taranaki. Total expected cost is around $9,000. This is the cost of travel, accommodation, food and tournament and umpiring fees. Students will contribute $4,800 with the balance from fund-raising. Our students come from across the socio-economic spectrum. This means that while a few of the players have no problem finding funds to attend tournament, other players and their families find the cost daunting. Even finding their personal contribution is difficult. Hence the need to fund raise to enable ALL our players to participate.
