We hope you all had a safe and enjoyable New Year.
Unfortunately, 2018 is off to a very difficult start for two of our most loyal and long-standing volunteers. Most of you know Wendy and Steve Buchanan, they have been a foster family, adopted family, and devoted volunteers for ten years. Wendy and Steve have literally fostered over 200 dogs for us and have attended almost all of our fundraisers as volunteers and/or participants. We know we can always rely on them to step in, step up, and be there when we need them.
Last week, Steve suffered a massive stroke. He has an extremely long recovery road ahead of him and will most likely not be able to return to work. Steve is currently in the QE hospital and when he is able, he will be transferred to the NS Rehab centre for an undetermined amount of time. When Steve does finally go home, his life will not be the same as before he had the stroke. He will need a wheel chair, a lift chair, rails in the halls of the house, bars in the bathroom, a walker and a ramp in the front entrance of the house. This is very expensive and we would like to help ease the burden on Steve and his family. Not to mention the cost of Wendy's daily travel to Halifax to visit Steve.
We are always very forthcoming about where our fundraising monies go – usually to the vet clinics – and this time we would like to give back. We have started to fundraise for Wendy and Steve, to help them through this very difficult time. They have been amazing friends to the rescue and the dogs, and it feels like the very least we can do.
This You Caring fundraiser is the start of our fundraising attempt, we would like to raise at least $5000.00 to help pay for Steve's care, a ramp for their home and even simple things like gas cards for Wendy's daily travel to the hospital to visit Steve and meet with the doctors. We thank you in advance for your kindness and for helping one of rescue's best families.
In the meantime, if you would like to leave a message of encouragement for Wendy and Steve, you can do so here and we will make sure they see them all.
