URGENT :: WATER PROTECTORS FROM STANDING ROCK :: CALL FOR ASSISTANCE
A caravan of over 50 water protectors has headed out of Standing Rock. Destination: Washington D.C. - where we lent our voices to the protection of our water during inauguration week with great success.
Given less than one week of planning, our vibrant team of water protectors put together a powerful protest held in peace and unity on inauguration day. Not a single arrest made. Hundreds of people flowing in to join us in song and in bolstering our human barricade to the inaugural gate. In the two days after, we followed immediately with two more consecutive actions.
All held with our mantra in mind: Peaceful. Prayerful. Organized.
Our objective is to be heard. To show others who care ways to stand and be heard. To create understanding and garner support in others who aren't yet aware. For the protection of the water we all share. The water we all rely on. The water that is the very essence of us all.
To facilitate that understanding among those who do not yet know of the crisis or perhaps know but are not aware of its true implications on their lives and the world as a whole, clear, effective communication is key. Violence is not. This is the premise upon which our actions are based on.
And we're nowhere near done.
We know firsthand the power of peaceful protest, welcoming many to our cause and capturing the attention of the world while keeping far from the frays of violence. We have intentions of continuing on this path and bringing our voice of protest in a good way.
We'd love to gain everyone's support in this meaningful journey. While it would be grand to cover expenses incurred from the actions we created and additional housing costs if possible, assistance in covering gas expenses for the caravan in itself would already be tremendously helpful.
We were graciously hosted at St. Stephen Church and fed by Seeds of Peace for the most part of our stay. Unfortunately, these support systems were not able to continue a day after the inauguration, and we had to rely on AirBnB at that point in figuring out transportation given that two vehicles had individually broken down in Ohio.
