The Story

Recently, large portions of Northern California and portions of Southern California fell victim to devastating fires with entire neighborhoods decimated in a matter of minutes. These fires impacted California as a whole. Within our large California transit community, we are aware of 9 agency staff that lost their homes in Santa Rosa, Sonoma, and Lake County. In light of this, the California transit community is setting up the "California Transit Employee Disaster Relief Fund" as a means to provide assistance to those who have lost their homes. We encourage our friends and transit family to contribute what they can to help our colleagues and friends in Sonoma, Santa Rosa, Lake, and beyond.

We are getting this up and running, and are hoping to help friends at Sonoma County Transit, Santa Rosa CityBus, and Lake Transit who have lost their homes.

For your information: funds will also be collected at both the CALACT and California Transit Association’s Autumn Conferences. All funds will be distributed equally to employees of transit agencies throughout the state that have lost their homes due to recent fires. While the goal attached to this particular page seems high, we are currently aware of 9 individuals within our Transit Community who have lost homes. An equal distribution of funds collected will be a modest donation and effort to help these individuals as they begin to rebuild their lives in light of the disaster and in foreseeable circumstance they are in. We hope to do what we can and would appreciate any and all help.

Out of respect and privacy, we will not be publicly announcing the individuals affected by the September/October fires. If you’d like more information, please contact staff at CALACT. We are working directly with Directors at the aforementioned agencies but also request other agencies who have staff affected by the fires reach out to us in order to be included in this fund.

Thank you so much!
